What are .nfo files actually for

I don't use Kodi but I do use wmc. I already have metadata seup for wmc via YAMMM. Do I need .nfo files for metadata in emby and if not what why does emby create these files during g library scan

They are read from if you ever need to rebuild the database instead of having to get the metadata from the provider sites again.

 

If you disable the nfo saver option metadata is only written the database.

 

Also if you customize your metadata you want the nfo saver enable to maintain your customization.
