acnp77 67 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Hi all I am using Emby-Server for my local content and I am very happy with it. Now I would like to add live TV. But I have no idea where to start. I have read the wiki, but still do not know how to get started. I run my Emby-Server on a debian 8 virtual machine on a HP microserver gen8. Do I need to buy any additional hardware? Anyone can point me in a direction? Thanks a lot Cheers
Luke 42077 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Hi there, have you checked out our Live TV Wiki? We recommend HD Homerun.
acnp77 67 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Posted May 20, 2018 (edited) Ok, thanks. HD Homerun looks good. But where does the signal come from? It seems like this is for a cable TV service subscription. Is there an alternative for IPTV? Thanks Edited May 20, 2018 by acnp77
CBers 7450 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Ok, thanks. HD Homerun looks good. But where does the signal come from? Do I need a TV service provider subscription? Thanks Over The Air (OTA) signal, so just an aerial.
acnp77 67 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Posted May 20, 2018 (edited) Ok thanks, I do not even know if this is available in my country (Switzerland). Need to find out. So you do not need an extra antenna for this? Cheers Edited May 20, 2018 by acnp77
Luke 42077 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Well you would need to hook up the HD Homerun to your incoming OTA live tv signal, which may or may not be coming from an antenna. 1
ebr 16169 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 You don't need a tuner for IPTV - you need a provider.
acnp77 67 Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 You don't need a tuner for IPTV - you need a provider. I use "Zattoo" for watching TV. Is there a way to combine something like this with Emby? Does not have to be Zattoo, it can be any Internet-based TV-System. The IPTV form my provider is encrypted a can only be watch with the "tv-box" from the provider. Cheers
Luke 42077 Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Then you'll likely need a different provider, one that has an M3U feature that you can import into Emby. 1
pünktchen 1409 Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Then you'll likely need a different provider, one that has an M3U feature that you can import into Emby.Yeah, there are more then enough of illegal providers to choose from. And then the people come here to complain about the bad channel management in Emby with all their "VOD channels" [emoji6] 1
acnp77 67 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 (edited) Thanks you all. Will need to spend some time to get into this subject and find a good provider. Cheers How can watching TV be so complicated... I think I am too old... lol Edited May 24, 2018 by acnp77 1
