Roku 3 doesn't play my files

Hi all, just got my Roku 3 today after reading about its development and release. Buying the MediaBrowser3 app on Roku Channels Store was smooth too.

The problem that I'm having with the app is that it can browse all the movies and TV shows in my library, and get into every single menu, just it just won't play any videos. After pressing "ok button" on "Play", I see a quick flash of "retrieving" on the screen then t it just stays on the same window (see attached screenshot).

Where can I even begin troubleshooting this? I have a regular MB3 Client running on HTPC which doesn't have this problem so I suspect maybe there is some setting on the Roku that I need to set?

I just updated the MB3 Server to the latest alpha, now the MB3 app on Roku can play all the videos now.

Phew, sorry for the false alarm :P

well that's not really a good answer though. there's nothing that's changed so it's purely coincidental.

I have been testing the MB3++ app on Roku for a few hours, so far so good. The moment I see the same problem again, I'll go into the server logs right away to look for anything suspicious and post it here.

I am having the same experience. Once I get time for more tests I will report my findings. My Roku 2 plays the viseos with now issues.

I was getting the same thing for the longest time. However, now that I'm resetting the Roku 3 every night before playing I no longer have an issue. I know it doesn't fix the issue, but it seems to clear something up for me.

If you are using a wired connection for your Roku, increase the bitrate in the app under preferences. Setting the bitrate to the max of 20 megabits/second, I can play anything in my library. All of my content is in MKV containers though. Video is H.264 and audio varies deepening on what was on the disc. Subtitles are always mixed into the container. In the server, I have transcoding set to high quality.

Also in the Roku's settings, make sure it is set to Stereo and not 5.1 pass thru if you don't have 5.1 pass thru via HDMI.

I have reset my Roku once in the six months that I have had it.

What are the specs for your MB server machine?

Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit.

i5 2500K Quad Core - Sandy Bridge

MSI motherboard.

8 GB Memory.

240 GB SSD

nVIDIA 450 GTS video

Storage is spread over 9 terabytes of drive space on the same machine. Machine is a bit old. Might upgrade it this summer.

I also found out by trial and error these two settings will allow my Roku to play anything without having to reset at all.
