Folder/Filename Auto-Organize issues

For this example I am going to use Designated Survivor for simplicity sake, it happens with a couple other shows.

I mistakenly created the folder for this by clicking the folder icon in the Auto Organize window, then clicked the "+" next to series, and used the name to identify it.

So, it created a folder 'Designed Survivor (2016)' which is probably fine now that the file names don't have the date as they once did, but its really just a pet peeve that I can't solve this.

I rename the folder, check in metadata manager, make sure there's no Smart Match rule, checked nfo file, all looks fine... Everything is just Designed Survivor (no 2016). Then I drag an episode into my targeted folder and boom, it recreates the 'Designed Survivor (2016)' folder again... Its just annoying, but I have removed dates from MANY other titles with success... Its just a few titles, and I really think the case is where I used the identify within the auto organize dialog rather than just manually creating the folder myself and wait for it to appear (and edit in metadata manager if need be).

Also, if I turn auto organize off, and try to manually (using the folder icon) organize under the dialog, there are 2 entries listed for Designated Survivor always, even after I've deleted one manually or via metadata manager.

So, what my question/point is, I suppose, is there another database somewhere that I need to edit/delete/recreate to alleviate these issues, I know know to be careful with 'identify' because it always shows a date, but some create folder as "name (date)" and some don't... I think it's imdb doesn't and thetvdb does, but I can't test tgat because they're not labeled, maybe that could be clear, or showing under the artwork the name of the folder it'll create.

I clearly know this is a nit-picky thing. And probably most people don't care, but with the exception of titles of the same name (deception, being human, etc) I'd rather it be just the name... Conversely 'Title (date)' is precisely how I do my movie collection, go figure.

TIA,

-g

never came across not appending the year, but this should be a normal behavior by design to avoid false sorting of series with the name

if you don't want the year included in the series folder name, you can change this by your liking in

AutoOrganize -> Tv -> Series Directory Pattern

movie section offers the same setting

double entries in the list are a long known issue

I understand how it could be normal behavior for it to do when same title with different year exists. My issue with Designated Survivor shouldn't apply in that situation. As I said, I think it happened because I didn't allow it to find the folder i had created organically at the next database scan. I instead did 'identify' which will often present multiple 'finds' from different sources (assuming imdb, tvdb, etc) some (usually the one that has the cleaner artwork) will force a date. To be clear, my settings DONT have date in the variable (i.e. I am usin %sn not %fn).

If I knew what folders to save and what to not save as far as the file/folders go, I'm happy to do a complete uninstall of the server and then reinstall it and let it scan my directories again as I store the metadata at the media locations. What I would like to not have to do is create the six user accounts I currently have from scratch again... I would like to keep that info and hopefully the watched shows information, but then it should be able to not have the duplicate entries in the auto organize dialog. I know now how to manually create the folder right the first time.

Why is it that even if I were to keep the one with the date added, if I go through the auto organize interface to manually add something not understood (click the folder icon, pick series name) it shows 2 identical 'Designated Survivor' entries, and of course #1 creates the folder I've deleted with the (2016) appended and #2 creates it the correct way.

This is contrary to whatever I may have fixed in metadata manager. I can manually edit the folder first then going to metadata manager and edit the title and get it exactly how I want it, yet there will still exist 2 entries in the auto organize database apparently. Is it possible to edit a database file somewhere?

If no one else is having this problem, probably the simplest thing is for me to start over and have it rescan, I just really don't want to lose the user information, but I suppose I could create the corresponding user accounts and Kodi and have it synchronize prior and then again afterwards, I don't know if that would work or not.

Anyway, thank you for any insight.

What you could do is shutdown the server and delete the server's library.db file and then start up and run a scan. You will lose user data such as watch data, favorites, etc. If you use the backup plugin you can back this up first and then restore it afterwards.

I don't currently have a premium account, I used backup config plugin years ago, and it worked for a long time after the feature was premium, but earlier this year after uninstalling dev build to return to stable, I lost the feature.

I was told way back that copying the %appdata%/emby-server folder would work, but I just compared my old (background in the image) and new install (foreground, different machine) and alot of the folders are now nested under programdata folder. Is the difference because of changes that have happened since I installed it on the older machine, yet everything functions normally (without a programdata folder at all)

And as a side note the main data I want to keep is my watched shows, but Kodi stores that too and I can load the kodi connect plugin to bring it back to Emby, I guess I will be fine.

(I guess you guys dont allow image uploads, I tried png, gif, jpg and even bmp)

emby%20data%20folders%20compared-PK-XPS.

So here is a link to the image on a public share if the embeded image link didn't take.

Yea newer installations have changed the programdata structure slightly.
