mattyg8 18 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Hi Im currently a bit confused with the new collection update Previously I would have a folder called Boxsets, then I would have the following under that 3 Ninjas Collection [tmdbid=71458] [boxset] Ace Ventura Collection [tmdbid=3167] [boxset] Alien Collection [tmdbid=8091] [boxset] ect With each Individual movie folder under that, I preferre this as it kept all the boxset files together ect Is it now possible to do this with the new collection manager or do I need to still do it all manually to keep them together thanks
Luke 42078 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 if you want to store your movies under boxset folders in the file system, then by all means continue to do that. Most users though don't want to do that kind of manual work, so that's the crowd these new features are targeting. now you can just store your movies in a regular movies folder and design your boxsets independently. just two different ways of doing it.
mattyg8 18 Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Thats what I thought....maybe when I get some more space I can do that
Luke 42078 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 well it doesn't duplicate your movies, in case you're wondering. so it wouldn't actually add any new space requirements.
ebr 16178 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The big question is, were you actually organizing the movies into box set folders or were you duplicating with shortcuts? If the former, you can keep doing that if you wish. But, if the latter, I'd remove those shortcut ones and re-create them with the new collection manager (or use the auto box set plug-in).
mattyg8 18 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I know it doesn't duplicate them but I have all my movies on one hdd and then put the movies in boxsets on another hdd...i dont use the shortcuts
Pelon 203 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I wanted to use the new functionally to group concerts that have multiple disks. The issue is that since all disk are part of the same "movie", they have the same IMDB/TMDB IDs. This doesn't allow me to add multiple folders that share the same ID. I can see the same issue if you wanted to have a collection that has a regular and 3D version of a movie. I also find it interesting that the Boxset plugin added all of my movies that are part of a set, but the new collection functionality only did it for 6 collections.
pagali 62 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I tried out the Collection editing functions on the Server. It works very well for the most part. I discovered, though, that a new menu item was added in MBC... Collections. My menu is already overcrowded, I'm always looking for ways to streamline it... so this isn't something I want. I just want my collections to show up inline in the general Movies area as they always have, so I removed the new collections and went back to using grouped folders for bluray movie collections, and shortcuts to add 3D versions into the list (which also have their own separate Library section). Works better for me. If we could be given a choice of whether or not to display the separate Collections menu item, I would try it again.
ebr 16178 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Multiple versions of the same film will be handled in a different manner with the next server release.

Conversely, if this is an available feature, why not just add it as an option in the configuration menu so people could also use this Collection even if they use the old method for building collections? This sounds like something I would turn on if available.

I did the same trial and agreed that I did not want the additional menu item as well so deleted the collections. Noted an interesting fact however and that was that the new boxsets had genre data associated with them that persisted even after I deleted collections and went back to grouped folders. I did copy the collection.xml file to the grouped folder prior to deleting the collection in the apps/roaming/... file but I see no genre data in the collection.xml file and wondering where it is stored and if there is a way to get this metadata to flow over to my other grouped boxsets w/o creating and deleting new collections in the server or editing collection data in the web interface.
WWWestern 94 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I think this is additive, so: 'genres of collection' = 'genres of title 1' + 'genres of title 2' + 'genres of title 3' + ...
ebr 16178 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I think this is additive, so: 'genres of collection' = 'genres of title 1' + 'genres of title 2' + 'genres of title 3' + ... I'm pretty sure that feature has been there since I first implemented the box set entity. Maybe it was broken though and got fixed...
