5olives 0 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 I am getting consistent "End of stream" and "time out error" messages on my HD box. I have logged the issue on the SiliconDust forum and it appears I am experiencing a high packet loss. The only way I have been able to get a stable stream from HD is to disconnect all other devices to eliminate other network traffic. I bought a new Netgear Orbi Ac3000 router, thinking the problem was my older Netgear nighthawk r6700 router. Same problem, less $350. I have swapped cables, no difference. Ran ping test and lose anywhere from 20-40 packets with 200 pings to the HD box with "normal" network setup, lose zero packets when everything else is disconnected from the network. I run the same test against my AFTV stick and lose 0-2 packets with 200 ping with "normal" network setup and zero loss with everything disconnected. I am curious if anyone here has experienced similar problems with the HD connect or if you have suggestions? I got frustrated with the lack of help on SD forum and looking for alternatives. I am considering a change to Hauppage Win tv Quad Hd. Does anyone here have experience with that tuner and would you recommend it? Or any other tuners that are stable? I am ready to smash the HD box with a hammer, beyond frustration at this point especially after seeing all of the recommendations for their product, only to end up with a brick. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.
Luke 42083 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 What about a slightly older less cutting edge hd homerun? the issues you are reporting are something we don't see a lot around here with hd homerun users.
Erik 124 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Forgive me if you have already tried, but could you use the packet test within the HDhomerun (not sure if the Quatro is the same command) that they talk about here: https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5877 Then try disconnecting/reconnecting one network device at a time to see which is causing the issue? Since you say it's fine with all other devices disconnected.
naeonline 27 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Are you using wired or wireless devices? This can make a BIG difference.
5olives 0 Posted May 11, 2018 Author Posted May 11, 2018 Thanks for the responses. I have three wired AFTV sticks and 3 wireless. I am experiencing the problem on wired and wireless. The ping test I refereneced was on a wired stick plugged into the router with the HD box. I will go through the HD llink provied above this weekend to see if it helps. I also spent some time on netgear support forum. It looks like they have had firmware issues with the Orbi that are causing packet loss, so I am going to do a deeper dive there too. In the meantime, I am still open to any suggestions or feedback on Hauppage products.

I ask because the one problem I have always had with the HD HomeRun tuners is they a sensitive to Interference (from the WiFi) When I was using a LinkSys router I needed at least a few feet between the tuners and the router (5 or 6 feet) and that solved the issue until I had to replace the LinkSys with an ASUS which has a more powerful radio than the LinkSys. Rather than decrease the power of the WiFi signal (option in the router) I had to relocate the router from basement to Living Room and that again solved the issue. I don't know if the Quatro has better RF shielding than the older models but it might be worth a try to see if it makes a difference. I have several connects, 2 primes and 2 of the older dual units. greasy 4 Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 I was looking at my switch stats, and noticed that my Quatro was sending between 13-18Mbps per show being recorded. How is your quatro connected to your Emby server? If possible put them on the same switch. That way the only thing using the wireless is your emby stream. If you're trying to connect your tuner to your emby server over wifi, then I suspect you're going to really run into issues if you're trying to watch or record more than one show at a time.
shpitz461 4 Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Have you tried this? https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5877 I have the Connect (2 tuners) and it's working fine. I'm wired.
5olives 0 Posted May 20, 2018 Author Posted May 20, 2018 After spending quite a bit of time running diagnotisics, it looks like my Orbi router is the issue. I was able to isolate the HDHR box on a separate switch along with the wired AFTV sticks and it was stable with three concurrent streams for 8 hours. Turns out the Orbi is plagued with FW issues, stability, packet loss, etc. I am in the process of looking for another router solution.
