jachin99 88 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 I'm starting to setup a 3D mkv library. I have read the Wiki about 3D but I'm still not too sure about it. My understanding is that emby uses the file extension to decide which form of 3D to play, and I have that part kind of down but when I try to play a 3D movie, it plays in regular 2D so here are my questions. I have even tried manually setting the 3D type on my TV, and I am attempting framepacked 3D if that helps. 1. My 3D movies are on a remote file server. Do they need to be on the same machine as emby server itself? 2.What clients are capable of 3D playback and what are the OS requirements? I have tried the web app, EMC, and UWP but none worked. I tried these on a Win 7 machine, and I have LAV installed.
Jdiesel 1431 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Most players don't support frame-packed (MVC) 3D videos. You options for Emby clients are: Emby Theater with MPC-BE/HC and madVR external player Emby Theater with PowerDVD player external player Kodi on supported hardware https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=221407

Is there a way to get full HD 3d from win7? My understanding is that mvc isn't possible but I want to double check. Is there a certain way I need to rip my movies. I used make moves and the original file extension was .mk3d. I changed it to .mvc.mkv for testing. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

The extension shouldn't matter. You can setup the external player in Emby Theater to only play 3D files with the external player but I'm not sure what naming convention it is looking for when the "3D" box is checked in the external player setup page.
Teddy 100 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) In case I can help, first of all I do not use mpchc with madvr, only the player integrated in WMC. My folder with 3D movies are treated like any MKV file without any convention, it is the TV that converts them together with the glasses so that they can be seen in 3D, and the truth is that it reproduces and it looks very good I use fddshow codecs to view all formats expect lav codec for the x265 format and PowerDVD 15 to play the ISOs. My configuration is Windows 7 and Emby for WMC and Shark codecs selecting as I say, fddshow codecs. Edited May 8, 2018 by Teddy
jachin99 88 Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 I have PDVD 15 (If they ever unlock my key for me). Teddy, you use PDVD as an external player for 3d ISOs correct? I am looking for an external player like MPC-HC to lighten the picture some but every bit of learning something new helps. I have seen PDVD referenced a few times for external playback of 3d files.
Teddy 100 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) Yes, I use Powerdvd 15 to play all (and only) DVD ISO, Bluray ISO even 3D ISO without problems. For 3D.mkv and other formats using the internal WMC player. Remember that my configuration is Emby for WMC. (To mount ISO automatically I'm using VirtualClone drive v.5.4.5.0 because PowerDVD 15 doesn't manage directly the ISO format) Edited May 8, 2018 by Teddy
jachin99 88 Posted May 9, 2018 Author Posted May 9, 2018 This is looking like PDVD might be my best option. You said, " For3Dmkv and other formats using the internal WMC player" Just to be clear, you mean you use the interface to select a movie but PDVD to play the ISO for 3d movies, correct?
Teddy 100 Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Yes, it's correct. Only I use Powerdvd to play all ISO format. For the rest fddshow shark codecs, except lav for x265.
jachin99 88 Posted May 9, 2018 Author Posted May 9, 2018 Ok thanks. I'll hopefully try this out if I ever get a key unlock from cyberlink.
jachin99 88 Posted May 15, 2018 Author Posted May 15, 2018 Alright Teddy, I got my key unlocked but I don't see powerDVD as an external player option. I tested a 3D iso, and 3D mkv in the standalone PDVD player and they seem to work. I also had Powerdvd prompt me to download an ISO mounter when I played my ISO. How do I set up EMC configurator to make it all work? Does this work with cinema mode? Thanks. As a fallback I somehow got a 3D mkv to play in MPCBE based off of Shark's recommendations but I can't say for sure that I can repeat my success. Thanks.
jachin99 88 Posted May 17, 2018 Author Posted May 17, 2018 Ok, I have this working pretty well but not quite the way I like it (Because I'm too particular probably). I setup a collection in Emby for my 3D Movies, tagged them as 3D in the metadata editor, changed the names of all of them to end with 3D MVC, and pointed emby to PDVD15 as an external player. I also told the coverart plugin to apply a 3D overlay to movies tagged as 3D, and I have Cinema mode enabled, and configured to play a local trailer, an intro video, and a codec video. When I navigate to a 3D movie in EMC, and play the movie, all of my intros play fine (A few extra play but that is another matter) using the native EMC video player, then powerDVD is launched, my TV automtically switches to 3D mode, and my movie plays. I haven't spent a lot of time examining how well things close but they close well enough for the time being. The execution is almost perfect BUT I don't care too much for 3D in PowerDVD (Its still a little dark, and the effect isn't very strong), and I would prefer for my movie to launch in the WMC PDVD interface vs. the standalone. Here are things i'm unsure about or would like to change: I don't know how well WMC can launch the PDVD plugin from within itself, but I would rather do this because it takes full advantage of my existing remotes, and has the WMC interface, and menus. In order to accomplish this, I need to find the executable for the plugin, and pray it takes command line arguments. Because of these two considerations I don't believe that I will be able to make my improvements via PDVD Comparing 3D playback in PDVD against my PS3, the effect is much stronger - probably a little too strong - and it isn't quite a dark. I would like to explore some version of MPC as an external player because I can tweak most of these problems but I lose the WMC interface. I can probably live with that. Does anyone know if there is some advantage to ISO 3d playback vs MKV on WIn 7?
jachin99 88 Posted May 18, 2018 Author Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) It looks like PDVD just launches its CinemaMode player when you select it through the WMC interface. I tested it out, and that player takes command line arguments just like PDVD. The only difference between the two seems to be the way they are skinned so to answer my own question, you CAN launch a 3D movie in PDVD 15 via the EMC interface, and retain my MCE remote functionality, AND the MCE interface. The only thing I can't solve is the depth but I'll try to setup MPC-BE for 3D playback, and if I want to watch a 3D movie with more depth or a lighter picture then I'll just use that player to start the video. BTW, the executable for PDVD15 cinema mode is located in the PDVD programfiles folder under Movie\Cinema, and its called PDVDCinema.exe Edited May 18, 2018 by jachin99
