Duplicate Recorded TV Folders in v3.4.1.0

After upgrading to v3.4.1.0 tonight, I am seeing duplicated TV Series Folders for some shows. I tried to rescan the media library but this did not fix the issue. How do I fix this?

I see what is going on. It appears that since v3.4.0, the recorded TV folder has a year after the series title. For example, it used to be "Soko Wismar", now it is "Soko Wismar (2004)". The "Season 12" folder is then a sub folder of "Soko Wismar (2004)". This is wrong because Season 12 of this show aired in 2014. How do I fix this? I assume this is going to get messy with recording of future shows.

Hm, may the above is not the issue because I get duplicate Series folders, which both have exactly the same content. No clue what is happening.

What is your guide data?

Schedules Direct

I am now trying a scan with replace all metadata.

Ok well we only use the year when we have a zap2it Id in the guide data. That id leads to tvdb which means internet metadata.

I think this one series might just be a single one off where schedules direct or tvdb has the wrong id. Nobody else reported this in beta.

For other series what I would suggest is taking your episodes from the series without the year and moving them into the folder with the year.

It would be best if we would use the folder you already have, however I forgot about this for the release. We'll look at that for the next one.

This happened to 4 different series, all of which and the only of which had recordings since I upgraded from 3.2.70 to 3.4.0.

Every series is going to save with the year now, if we have a zap2it Id from schedules direct

As I corrected in Post #3, I do no longer think it is related to the folder structure. See example below for duplicate series folder. The replace all metadata did not fix this.

Same thing is happening to me.  I just convinced my wife to cut the cord, and these latest versions aren't helping.

The roku image plugin doesn't sync up with the video now that I'm not longer able to shrink the files into mkv format.  There are duplicates showing now because of the new folders being added.

I'm at the point I want to revert back to the latest version prior to 3.4

There is an easy solution to the duplicates - just manually merge the series folders. It is a one-time operation. Trust us on this one, you are better off having the year in the series folder name because it will produce more reliable internet metadata.

@revingeer, since you have two physical series folders, there's nothing you can do to merge them other than manually move the episode files from the folders without the year to the folders with the year.

It is a one-time operation and then going forward, all series folders will have the year in them.

I tried deleting and re-adding the TV library and things have gone completely to hell. All series now have the same image of a show I do not even record or own. I tried refreshing all metadata and images to no avail. How do I fix this?

Played for an hour re-scanning with various metadata settings and cannot correct the series images. The show identification seems to be correct but the artwork download is hosed. Emby seems badly broken again.

EDIT: Actually I do not know if the show identification is correct. The nfo files were touched and have the correct information. But I do not know whether the entire nfo files is replaced during a library scan or whether just certain information is updated during the scan. I am at a complete loss and need help. I wish I could go back three days when life was peachy.

I had 5 series with duplicates.

I just fixed it by moving the contents of each show folder (without a year) into the new show folder (the one with a year) and then removed the original folder (without a year).

Ran a library scan and its all back to normal. No duplicates.

That's not what I suggested to do earlier. Move the episode files from the folders without the year to the folders with the year.

See what @@Erik did in post #16

I understand, but after scan with replace all metadata, some folders no longer have titles at all, so I felt compelled to just starts over. So I deleted and re-added the TV library and ended up with the situations posted in post #14. Is this not fixable?

I will document this issue with logs later in a separate thread. I can reproduce the issue on the latest beta. The issue comes down to tvdb not resolving the name of the show although a separate search shows that the show is in the database. I am puzzled that nobody reported something similar yet. Maybe the issue is not obvious with an existing library.

I have noticed a couple instances since 3.4 went live, around the same time as TheTVDB launched its new site, that it wasn't producing a year in the folder naming. I assume TVDB was down around the time the show finished recording so I ended up with 2 folders, one with the year from previous recordings of the series and a new one without the year. I just merged the folders and moved on, it was very limited time this happened.

I haven't experienced anything like your examples here.

I just had this. I merged them, manually. I suppose you could be preemptive, and add the year to your existing folders.

So I narrowed this down late last night and thought I fixed the issue, which was indeed related to the folder structure. All recorded TV is in "M:\Recorded TV". In this directory there are the subdirectories "Series" and "Movies". After trying to refresh metadata, I saw in the log file the following entries:

2018-05-08 20:57:51.749 Info TaskManager: Queueing task RefreshMediaLibraryTask

So it seemed that subdirectories under "Series" were not queried. So I took all the Tv show folders in "Series" and moved them to "M:\Recorded TV", did the same for the subdirectories in "Movies", and then deleted the empty "Series" and "Movies" subdirectories. I then rescanned the folders and replaced metadata and voila that worked, all shows were reingested with proper metadata and images.

Problem now is that new TV shows continue to be recorded in subdirectories under "M:\Recorded TV\Series" where the "Series" subdirectory got recreated in the recording process. Not sure how to fix this.

Have you designated which folder to record to, in the server?

Default recording location under DVR settings is set to "M:\Recorded TV". Not sure how the "Series" and "Movies" subfolders are controlled.
