Still having problems with server crashing

Recommended Posts

I've been having this problem for a few months now and was hoping some of the server updates would take care of the problem I was having.  I'm still crashing about once a day and have to manual stop the server and then restart it.  When I go into the task manager the server is using around 260mb of memory and I can't open the configure mediabrowser option without getting an error.  Once I stop the process and restart it, everything is fine again until the next day and then I need to repeat the process.  I think it has to do with system out of memory error.

I had posted about this a few months ago as well but thought it would be better to post a new one instead of bumping the old one back up.  Please merge if you think it would be better.

can you post a complete log file from when you started the server, unzipped. thanks.

I restarted the server about 30 mins ago and the log file was already to big to attached with out zipping it.  I closed the server and reopened it and attached the new file it created.  With in about 5 mins it was already over 300kb.  Not sure if that is normal or not but thought I'd mention it.  Hopefully the file I attached had the info you need.  Thanks

It's not normal unless you're just now getting the update from a few weeks ago, in which case, you just need to let it finish:

Even if that's not the case, I would just let it finish. Once the server has scanned your library items once, it's not going to keep refreshing them. So you just need to get through the scan and then it will quiet down.

I'll double check tonight to be sure I'm on the newest version of the beta release, though I think I am.  The file size stopped around 400kb but I have a pretty big library of things to scan through.

400k is not that big if a complete library scan is going on.

I'm using Version 3.0.5192.19560 of the server.  Sorry I forgot to post that before.  The log file got to a size of around 400kb in about 5-10 mins then seemed to slow down.  I'm not sure if this is normal or not but the log I posted yesterday got to a size of 1.5 mb in an hour and half.  Then at 11:59 a new log was created and is at 2.6mb and is still going.   The server is still up and running though and has not crashed yet today.  When I go into the task manager, mediabrowser server is running and currently using 233mb of memory.  It normally stops working when it gets a little over 260 mb of memory being used by it.

I'm running Windows Server 2012 R2 with Essentials experience enabled.  I'm also using Bitdefender for AV and Malewarebytes just in case it makes a difference.  They probably aren't needed and can uninstall them to see if it helps if you think it would be worth a try.  Thanks

The size of the log file is really inconsequential unless it is throwing a bunch of errors.

Ok, thanks.  I've just been grabbing at straws trying to figure why I always end up with an System Out of Memory Exception every day or two.  Is there anything else in my set up I should be looking at to see why?  Would uninstalling and reinstalling be worth a try or would that be unlikely to make a difference?  Thanks

I thought I remember reading some where that VOB or ISO images may cause some problems but I can't seem to find the thread anymore.  I do have several DVD rips in Video_TS folders.  Could this be, or was this ever a problem?  Would removing them from the library be enough to fix the problem if it is?  Thanks

yes, looking back I realize you want the start up log after the scan has been completed?  I'll post that when I get home tonight.  I'll close mediabrowser server and restart it and will post the log created from that once it has scanned the library.  Thanks

I attached the log file after restarting the server and rescanning the library.  All of the normally connected clients were down when the log was created.  Let me know if that makes a difference and I'll upload a different log.  Thanks

do you have old library paths still in your configuration? notice the errors:

2014-03-27 17:41:05.3067 Error - App: Error resolving path \\WINSERVER2012\Kids\Kids Music
The network name cannot be found.

we're unable to access that path. Note that i'm just pointing this out. It's not the issue here and shouldn't crash the server. In that regard this log doesn't indicate much.

It was an old library path and removed.  I have attached the log file again.  It is much larger now so I had to zip it.  Maybe it will have some useful info.  Thanks.

i doubt it. did you ever complete the scan?

Tonight Mediabrowser Server is using 281 mb of memory and I get an error message when I try to open "Configure Media Browser" and get a Can not connect when opening Media Browser Classic in WMC.  I attached the last log.  At the end of the log it says

Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
 System.OutOfMemoryException

Is anyone else running Windows Sever 2012 R2 with Media Browser Server?    Thanks

Well, I guess I'll give up on this again for a while and hope when a newer version of the server comes out I'll no longer have a memory leak.  My set up is a little different than most and haven't seen very many people using Windows Server 2012 R2 but I hate to start making major changes with out some idea if it would help or not.  In the mean time  I might set up my server to reboot everyday and auto log in.  That should keep media browser up and running I think just need to make sure a few other programs I have running will start on boot as well.  Thanks for the help
