Sparrowlogins 18 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 High, I posted a messages a few months back relating to aspect ratio as part of a different thread. I wanted to Bump this a bit. I am now pretty much solely using MBT as my media player and have sold it to family and friends too. One of my only problems is that some of my older TV Shows are 4:3(Such as Porridge/Open all hours etc.) and some new blu-ray transfers that I have ripped carry over the 4:3 original aspect ratios (such as Star Trek TNG). I understand there is a massive list of stuff that you are working on and I pretty much rave about MBT/MB3 to all in sundry but at the moment I am having to rename the 4:3 .mkv files as .m2ts files, just so that I can chose to play these in VLC so that I can widescreen them by default. Is there any plan/roadmap or way this can be bumped into a soon to be release? A plead Thanks. 1
buddyweiser 105 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I think he means to zoom in on the video so as to eliminate the black lines on the sides/or top? Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
A8HTPC 38 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Are your movies widescreen shrunk down to 4:3? If this is the case, MKVMerge can be used to fix the aspect ratio tag in the files. I had a couple movies like this. Edited March 25, 2014 by A8HTPC 1
Sparrowlogins 18 Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Hi. The Aspect Ratios are 4:3. I want to stretch them to 16:9 which I can do in Cyberlink or VLC to eliminate the black bars either side of the screen. From what I believe , there is no current aspect ratio changer in the current version of MBT. My request is to have something similar to that of VLC where one can change the aspect ration to suit the screen and video (4:3, 16:9. 16:10 etc.)
Sparrowlogins 18 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Hey all, does anyone know if Aspect Ratio changing is in any of the plans for build?
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Haven't heard. However I haven't checked as I prefer to keep video in its original aspect ratio. You can check the github project.
Shaun 93 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Aspect ratio mangement is on my list. I've not the directshow expert so I have to talk to him to understand what is required. If anyone is prepared to do some analysis what is required i.e zoom in, zoom out, 16:9, 4:3, 2:35:1 and the various mapping requirements that would be great (i.e state the requirements) 1
Sparrowlogins 18 Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 Hi Shaun, I am not sure if I qualify as a Subject Matter Expert to be able to give you official requirements, however I would like to have: To be able force aspect ratios in the settings menu where the video settings are, or to change aspect ratio per item playing during playback, perhaps in the same menu where you can change the audio that is used This should include: 4:3 14:9 16:9 16:10 1.77:1 ( essentially 16:9) 1.43:1 ( Imax Style) 1.85:1 2.39:1 1:1 perhaps 21:9 as some individuals may now have 21:9 TVs or monitors. Again, I am not sure if I have replicated any or used any twice (due to how they are labelled), as I am no expert but these are among the sizes on lists I have found elsewhere. Perhaps a way to allow for a check of the pixel count your display is set to and perhaps match that? I am not sure if that's how Cyberlink Smart stretch works. Cheers
ebr 16169 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 If you are talking about adjusting the way the video is displayed, then I don't think you need to specifically support all those different aspect ratios. Instead, what you need is different display modes like most TVs/Projectors have. Those are usually: Full (no adjustment) Horizontal Fit (Stretch the video content to fill the screen horizontally) Vertical Fit (stretch the video content to fill the screen vertically) - This is one of the most important ones to CIH 2.39 folks as that is what allows proper display of scope movies on a 2.39 screen with an anamorphic lens. Zoom (zooms in both directions) EDIT - What the OP is requesting would be Horizontal Fit. 1
JDizzy 21 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Rather than define all the different aspects, if you would allow the user to incrementally stretch the screen either direction with each click, and then save that setting for each movie, that would also work. You could also have a user defined default aspect in config...
whitestrat13 33 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Another thing that would be great, for a select few who are interested in 2.4:1 (and using an anamorphic projector lens), would be vertically stretching (not just zooming, and cropping off the sides) a 2.4:1 image. This would allow for the correct aspect ratio is displayed when using an anamorphic lens. This also makes an additional video processor, like a lumagen, unnecessary. I know that this may not be possible, especially since very few actually own a 2.4:1 screen, and a anamorphic lens. It would be cool to make use of a GPU for this. 1
Sparrowlogins 18 Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Can we make these settings both permanent and per movie? When using VLC to play media externally, I have set it to always play 4:3 in 16:9 (ie stretch horizontally) so that I don't have to worry about fiddling about with settings for each and every video. It can get annoying when "Snacking" on box sets of TV that are 4:3 having to change each episode individually.

Sparrowlogins 18 Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 Wanted to bump this again and find out if we could have horizontal stretching. It's the only thing keeping me from using mbt as my only player 1
Luke 42077 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 The Emby web app will have aspect ratio adjustment in the video player in the upcoming Emby Server 4.3 release. Thanks. 1
