Fanart.tv images very slow, or timeout.

I'm new to Emby, and on the whole finding it very good.

But there is one thing that is very frustrating. When I search for images, the ones from fanart.tv either take a very long time to load, or (more frequently don't load at all). When I try to preview the image they will very often timeout or present an internal server error.

Even if the image loads in the search results and does let me preview it, it often won't download. It just sits on the "spinning wheel" until I finally cancel it by closing the search window.

Fanart.tv seems to be the only provider for logos and thumbs, so I don't want to disable it.

Please see attached images.

I can manually go to the fanart.tv site and view and download pictures without issue. The site is a little slow, but images load within a few seconds.

Thanks

Hi, I've noticed this too lately. There's not much we can do about it.

@@Luke But if I can browse the site manually and download images, doesn't it have to be something to do with how Emby is trying to fetch images?

EDIT: Does Emby have it's own timeout settings for fetching images?

They may prioritize bandwidth for their website and possibly their VIP members. I'm not sure.

Website browsing and API access are two different things.

But yes the fanart images have been slow for quite awhile now, this is not something relatively new.

By the way, if I take their image urls from their api responses and put them in a browser, they are every bit as slow, so there's really nothing we can do about it.

They could improve this quite a bit by offering smaller thumbnail versions of their images. So when you're looking at a list of fanart images, we have to download the full size image for all of them. It would be better if you were looking at thumbnails, and then we didn't have to fetch the full size version until you actually click on it. But they don't have that.

Thanks guys.

I was just wondering if the problem was that Emby was waiting (for example) 5 seconds and then giving up, but if it waited 10 seconds the image might load.

In my attachment fanart3.jpg if I go direct to the timed out URL it does take a little longer than browsing via the normal website, but it does load.

Our timeouts are 30 seconds.

Thanks @@Luke, but what I am finding is that those URLs will ALWAYS load in a browser (albeit slowly), but in Emby they timeout. Is Emby giving up too quickly?

@@Luke OK thanks, you'd think that would be long enough. But is that configurable anywhere?

Sometimes when I try to apply an image (after the preview has successfully loaded) it sits at the "spinning wheel" forever (way longer than 30 seconds). And at this point hasn't Emby already downloaded the image, so what is it stuck on? See my attachment fanart2.jpg in my initial post.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

Thanks

I'm guessing it probably hasn't actually completed even though it might appear that it's done or just about done.

I'm pretty sure it has completed as I can click the preview and it shows it full size. What I am doing as a workaround is to click on it so it show the full size image, save the image to my desktop, then add it manually.
