computerprep 148 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 (edited) Poster images on the home screen of the Roku Emby app are not displayed in their proper aspect ratio. Images below compare posters in home screen rows vs movie library rows. Edited April 16, 2018 by computerprep
ebr 16172 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 I'm sorry, what is the difference in those images?
computerprep 148 Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 (edited) First image, entire row of poster images are squished shorter. Second image shows correct aspect ratio inside the library. Problem seems contained to the homescreen. Edited April 16, 2018 by computerprep
ebr 16172 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Is the option for enhanced images turned on or off?
computerprep 148 Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 I don't recall ever noticing this setting, and I'm away from home right now, so I can't check the Roku. Is this a server side setting I can check remotely?
Luke 42077 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 It only matters if you have the cover art plugin installed.
computerprep 148 Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 I do not have or use the cover art plugin
Jdiesel 1431 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 I have noticed the Roku posters being squished for a while. I never had the time to look into but I just used the OPs screenshots to illustrate this. The Roku poster images are pretty much 1:1, which appears to be because the text below is accounted for in the dimensions of the selection.

computerprep 148 Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 The color problems are the way the plasma display interacts with my camera, but I'll check out that setting tonight and report back.

Both of my pictures are from a Roku Player. No Android TV involved here. And you've cropped off a bit of the poster in your first mislabeled image. The bottom but if that poster is pretty dark, so it's an easy mistake.
Jdiesel 1431 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 My bad, I thought you were comparing the the Android TV homescreen for a moment. Regardless the posters on the Roku homescreen are squished together. I've also noticed something weird going on with the Roku actor images where there is some strange aspect ratios and crops happening.
Orion328 1 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 i'm having the same issue. no plugins installedyou're not alone my friend. i might try and roll back to a different Emby server update to see if that's part of it. i can say, Roku just had an update as well. could be on Roku's end of it too

Can you please try turning on the "Enhanced Image" option in the app and see if that makes a difference?
computerprep 148 Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 @@ebr, that setting fixed it, though not in the most desired way. It adds transparent pillboxes inside the white Roku outline. In other places (like inside movie libraries) the white Roku outline actually gets taller. But it does keep the images proportional.
ebr 16172 Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Please see if this is a little better with the latest beta (.77) of the app. Thanks.
computerprep 148 Posted April 30, 2018 Author Posted April 30, 2018 Agreed, looks great. Plus, we don't need to enable image enhancers to correct the aspect ratio. Merci beaucoup.
computerprep 148 Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 I'm on the beta channel right now, and this aspect ratio is messing up movie posters when you open a library and view by letter. Not affecting the "all movies" view. Only this time they're badly stretched vertically. So the image enhancer fix adds transparent space inside the hover outline above and below the poster image.
Luke 42077 Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Thanks for the report. If we've already improved one screen then I'm sure @@ebr will have a solution for the alphabet screen.

ebr 16172 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Yeah, the final problem is the vertical grids where we have to guess on a size because it cannot be adjusted for the actual item (all items have to be the same size). I've made a better guess I think for the next beta. Thanks.
