Server Shutdown - command Line

Recommended Posts

I have a need to restart the server periodically throughout the day due to the Library Monitor error-ing out at some point - seems random.

I have seen:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/31242-is-there-a-way-to-turn-off-the-emby-through-dos-command-line/

I guess my question is - Is it okay/safe to shutdown/restart the server using this or a similar method, and if there is a recommended way of doing it via the command line.

Thanks

Why do  you feel you need to do that? Can we please look at that? thanks.

Like I said @@Luke. The Library Monitor keeps error-ing out. We have looked at it in the past. Without resolution. The most common error I see in the log is "to many changes stopping..." and this occurs when there aren't any changes going on or shouldn't be anyway. You mentioned the limitations of the non-server OS as the most likely cause.

Hi, there is no command line option to shutdown, sorry.

The Server Restart plugin would have been ideal for this, but it's been "retired" :(

Have you tried the "taskkill" and "start" commands in a bat file via Task Scheduler?

Not tried it myself, but I'm sure others have.

Yeah I have a method using a very basic powershell script I wrote. It works fine.  I was just attempting to find the best way to do it via command line and/or a script of some sort and if there is any reason I should not do it this way.

Ideally I would do this with a scheduled task every few hours so. No issue with users being kicked off on my end.

For your Library Monitor issue, you need to provide logs.

Follow this link:

Like I said earlier This problem has been occurring for a long time. It has been looked at without being fixed. Occurs randomly but usually after 4 hours or so. Restarting the server resolves the issue for a time.

All that being said I will attach a new log in hopes it can be resolved. Please see time 20:44 for what I am seeing. Like I said earlier there are no changes going on at this time that should cause it to throw these errors - at least not any that I am aware of. I was watching an episode of 24 via an Nvidia Shield during this time and that is it.

Hopefully @@Luke can diagnose it for you.

If you run a library scan that is also another way of resetting the library monitor. If you just have that run once a day i think that would be fine.
