DaN 49 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I feel some kind of limitation in web client search; when searching for a person; behavior is like: -results will retrieve a person or a music artist with a similar name, or any media content (music, movie, TV, etc) that includes that name in the content title. (example -when viewing a movie cast, and clicking on a person, results will be limited to movies and TV shows where that person is part of its cast. I'd like to see the search results doing both at the same time; in a sense: -when searching for a valid person name; or clicking on a name in cast area of any content; the results show: all media contents that has that person in the cast, or music albums that matches that person as an artist any content where that person name appears on its title I've a valid example on that case; when searching for Michael Jackson (as a search string) in My Library; results will show: Michael Jackson Artist Michael Jackson Person only 1 Album (because Michael Jackson Name is part of its title (Michael Jackson's This Is It) A Documentary called Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon (BTW, Michael Jackson is not in the cast) Michael Jackson Company Studio Couple of other results matches the word Michael Click on Michael Jackson Person will show video contents that was not shown in the search results, and Songs: Clicking on Michael Jackson Artist Albums and Songs (and they're even with different count) Regards, DaN
DaN 49 Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Is it possible, when clicking on a person in cast area; to have the retrieved results showing all media types not limited to the collection type, either categorized or not? BTW, this is how the Android client works, so I guess it's possible for Web Client too.Sent from my HTC Butterfly using Tapatalk Edited March 23, 2014 by DaN
Luke 42078 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 the artist and person records are coming from different places and there isn't really a reliable way of linking them to each other.
DaN 49 Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 At least all contents that has cast, could show in search results;currently the results are limited to movies and TV shows ; if a collection of mixed type, it will not show. Sent from my HTC Butterfly using Tapatalk
DaN 49 Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 You\re absolutely right that person and artist data comes from two different sources; but it's the same source for movies, TV, music video, mix content, and adult content; my question is why the results is pre-categorized to movies, TV, and Music Videos only? Regards, DaN
DaN 49 Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 I tested different folder types, the person results only shows under movies, TV, and music videos, no other folder types Sent from my HTC Butterfly using Tapatalk
Luke 42078 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 it's all based on what you specified as the media folder type. if it's mixed it's more or less automatic. if your media folder type is movies, it will be under movies, and so on and so forth.
DaN 49 Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) Since the different media folder types supports People in metadata; and as mentioned they're all sourced from ImagesByName\People; I see that the search or (person selection) should be improved in away: Either retrieve matches from all similar sources media folders (whatever the type is); categorized whatever the media folder is. or Add an attribute to the folder when defined in library whether to include it in search results.
