fithwith 0 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 I'm using emby the portable version, all my libraries are configured on it and its working fine. few days ago I changed the whole emby folder to another location. then I discovered that all the libraries are emby, the libraries are there but no media inside it. after trying to investigate and searching on the forum I found through Metadata Manager that all the libraries are pointing to the old path. I tried to change it the new path but its not possible. hope its clear and you can help me guys thank you.
fithwith 0 Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 I tried just now and nothing happen. the library still empty and it didn't even start loading or scanning. from another side i have multiple libraries coming from different external hard drives, its really painful to scan all of them over each hard drives, thats why I choose the portable version from the beginning, I though everything will be included inside it and really portable.
fithwith 0 Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 (edited) actually I found on many config files the absolute path of many stuff is stored, libraries, metadata, cache, everything is stored with absolute path, so why not using relative path, specialy with the portable version, since everything is under the same folder, data, app, cahe, everything. I think this should be really addressed in future version. but right know what other solution we have ? Edited March 29, 2018 by fithwith
Carlo 4561 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Question. Are you using this sort of like: C:\Emby C:\Emby\Videos C:\Emby\Videos\Movies C:\Emby\Videos\TV Shows So you have your videos under then Emby directory? You then move this whole setup from c:\ to d:\ as an example but nothing shows up because these two libraries still point to: C:\Emby\Videos\TV Shows C:\Emby\Videos\Movies Is that the type of thing you are talking about? Just curious but is this installed on a USB device loaded with files that may get a different drive letter associated with it depending on the machine it's inserted into? Carlo
fithwith 0 Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 the folder are coming from different external hard drives, on the machine each hard drive is configured with a specific drive letter so the drives will always have the same name even if some of them are not connected or the order of the plugin is different, so the files path are always the same. I started using emby from almost a year and I never got any problem, everything was running fine, very nice app by the way, with a lot of useful feature. what I done yesterday, I was organizing my folder structure and I changed emby app folder from one location to another one, and then later on I discovered that all the libraries are empty, the libraries are there but not media inside it.
fithwith 0 Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 I discovered another strange behavior, if I keep emby app folder on the new location and try to scan one of the libraries, it does nothing, its not loading and no media come up, but if I return it back to the old location and try to scan one library the media start coming.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I guess Portable is not the actual term that should be used here. It is really only a Custom install location that is not Portable. You are allowed to place/install it where ever you like but have to start over if you are going to relocate the install.
fithwith 0 Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 even so, the problem itself is not that the app is not portable, there is no issue with the app, its independent with any external file system, in our case the problem is pretty simple, don't use an absolute path for something which is already under your app folder, why you start the path from c:\ while all the files are under your root which is ./emby/... I don't know if its ok to discuss such thing here, because this is something that can be addressed in future release so maybe they have ticketing system or github where I can speak about it, I mean to speak about it with the developers.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Your more then welcome to open a issue on github if you would like or continue it here.
fithwith 0 Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 I think if there is any solution of workaround it should be here it can be a reference for other persons but actually it look like that its a bug in the app itself thats why it need to be followed up in github, I already submitted a ticket here the link https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3217
Ibize 0 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 > Just curious but is this installed on a USB device loaded with files that may get a different drive letter associated with it depending on the machine it's inserted into? This is exactly what I am trying to do. I searched on the forums and I found this post. Any good way to do this? I tried setting the library adding relative paths, but I am not sure which one would be the current folder in that case.
Luke 42083 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 The server itself can handle being moved around like that, but if the libraries are moving around then that may need setting them back up after that happens.
