psybertech 33 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) Hello. I think the plugin should do what I want and I am testing a few things with it now. But I have a couple of questions... 1) If I were to restart my server, would the sync pick up if I have 10 items added? So if it did 3 of 10 and was 10% through the 4th, would it resume on #4 at 10% once I reboot the server or app? Or would all 10 items be re-added to be sync'd from the start (automatically)? Or would all 10 items need to be re-added (manually by me)? 2) If I select a movie and choose Original as the quality, is it just going to make it an MP4 from MKV or AVI, etc? (which is what I want with no quality changes at all) 3) It seems it transcodes to the /var/lib/emby/sync/ (linux) folder and then will move to my selected folder once done.... any plans to select a temp/working folder that is not on the device? i.e. I want the temp file to be on my NAS, not on the VM I am running Emby on (to help save the SSD lifetime that the VM is running on - plus I don't allocate a lot of space to the sever VM disk - it will be an issue for me if the movies are above 60GB at this point --- i.e. some 4K rips). Thanks! Edited March 26, 2018 by psybertech

Luke 42078 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 2) If I select a movie and choose Original as the quality, is it just going to make it an MP4 from MKV or AVI, etc? (which is what I want with no quality changes at all) It would use the original container, so essentially this just ends up resulting in copying the file. To force original quality while still changing containers, what you probably want to do is use the custom quality option and set a high bitrate.

See server sync settings to configure this.
psybertech 33 Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 See server sync settings to configure this. Luke... I can't seem to find a default 'sync' item in the server settings to tweak the settings for the quality. The plugin just shows options to add folders with no config. I have looked in most possible locations in the server settings, but I can't seem to find it. Am I blind? Thanks!
Luke 42078 Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 This is in global sync settings in the server dashboard under Download & Sync -> Settings.
psybertech 33 Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) Luke, I see no way to set what happens during a sync in the "Download & Sync" settings. I was looking/hoping for a way to set a conversion level/default to convert my MKV files (at whatever resolution/audio) to convert the original quality to the Apple TV friendly MP4.... or similar setting(s). This is the closest I found to the settings but falls short... Edited March 27, 2018 by psybertech
Luke 42078 Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Did you read the help text underneath the first field?
psybertech 33 Posted March 28, 2018 Author Posted March 28, 2018 (edited) Did you read the help text underneath the first field? Luke, are you referring to the text about the location? At first no, (typical user blunder), but I found it and like that. It will be very useful for how I intend to use this for sure. At this point I need to test the high settings for General and Baseline since they seem to definitely convert from MKV to MP4. That is what I need for my other AppleTV needs. I noticed in early tests (that I aborted), that the file sizes were much larger, so I need to figure out what the transcoding is doing here. I was hoping Original was doing something like an ffmpeg -c:v copy, but its not. Ideally I'd love to do a straight copy for supported codecs but I know my CPU will be at 1:1 in time so that isn't great. Anyway... I am sure I will find a nice solution to my needs in this. And yes, I realize that my needs aren't really 'syncing'... To me this is just a very user friendly way to select a ton of movies and convert to MP4. Anyway..... anyway...... all good here. Luke 42078 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 If the bitrate for the sync is higher than the original content bitrate, then it will do the video codec copy that you're looking for. It's the same kind of criteria as if you were streaming the file.

It's the same kind of criteria as if you were streaming the file. That is good to know. So if I set it to 1000 and basically it will do what I want. Very cool! Thanks, Luke! j
