Haxy 11 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Hi all, I have problem with setting up new library in my Emby server. Do I need store movie folders and tv show folders separetly? My current folder structure looks like this: As you can see I have mixed tv shows and movies in folder I want to mount into Emby server. It works ok with Plex but in Emby I have all files in Movies and nothing in TV shows
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie%20naming and there is one for TV naming as well as other wiki's for music etc
Haxy 11 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 It is sad that everytime I add new content to server I need to build proper folders tree...
Carlo 4561 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Setup the proper tree and it will work with basically any software. 2
Haxy 11 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 But currently with Plex i don’t need any folder tree and plex recognize movies and tv shows automaticaly and put it into separate library
Luke 42080 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 We hope to support a mish mash in the future. We are not quite there yet and currently require a little structure. Thanks.
Guest asrequested Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 But currently with Plex i don’t need any folder tree and plex recognize movies and tv shows automaticaly and put it into separate library As your collection grows, it's better to be able to find what you're looking for. Imagine having 20,000 files in one folder. I'd want to shoot myself in the face. A well organized media collection, is highly advised. 2
Carlo 4561 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 But currently with Plex i don’t need any folder tree and plex recognize movies and tv shows automaticaly and put it into separate library Actually you did if you were using any advanced features. They would not have worked otherwise. For example Plex essentially has a specific "tree" it wants as well. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381023-naming-movie-files/ Emby, Plex and Kodi will all use this structure fine. It's not until you get to advanced things like having 3D, 720, 1080 & 4K files in the same directory that things get interesting. <-- Plex sees these as dupes while Emby knows what they are and can easily serve up different versions of the file. Haxy 11 Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 What about TV Shows library in Emby. As I can see so far I need to create manualy separate folder with TV Show in my TV/ main folder. Is it correct? Something like this works great in Plex but not in Emby:
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Rather than guessing - You need to follow the naming guide wiki for TV https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV%20naming e.g. TV/The Walking Dead/Season 08/The Walking Dead - S08E10 - Episode Name.mkv Google for "Filebot" it can rename Tv and Movie files and create a file tree as well etc 1
Haxy 11 Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 I am guessing because I am moving from Plex where managing library was easier than in Emby, everything was working automatically. I will check Filebot.
WilhelmStroker 102 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 I'm surprised that naming convention worked for you with Plex, as it's just as sensitive to correctly named files as Emby. For what it's worth, my files are named according to the Plex naming convention and when I moved to Emby it correctly identified all my files without issues. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Just a side note. You might have had better luck with Plex due to meta data in the files which can help work around using bad folder and naming conventions. Plex sort of used to have to rely on this more than it does now. Here nor there: As many have pointed out FileBot can/will quickly become your best friend once you have it setup and working as it just simplifies life so much.
CBers 7451 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Or this: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19707/quickly-copy-movie-files-to-individually-named-folders/
Haxy 11 Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 Filebot is not free anymore so it is not for me
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 a simple script will create folders using the file name - assuming you have correctly named files in the first place
mastrmind11 722 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Filebot is not free anymore so it is not for me Based on a quick google search... the recent, supported version is windows store only. You can download previous versions directly here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/filebot/files/filebot/
WilhelmStroker 102 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I've used Filebot so much I didn't mind paying for it, developers need to eat too.
Haxy 11 Posted March 25, 2018 Author Posted March 25, 2018 Running filebot everytime when my torrent client download new file is not a solution. I just want to open envy client see new movie in library and play movie without any additions steps. This is how Plex works
mastrmind11 722 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 (edited) Running filebot everytime when my torrent client download new file is not a solution. I just want to open envy client see new movie in library and play movie without any additions steps. This is how Plex works Filebot can watch a directory.... not like you have to sit down and click something... you wouldn't even notice. But if that's too much to handle, not sure what to tell you. Luke 42080 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 We plan to handle any mish mash folder structure in the future but we're not quite there yet.
