josephzitt 1 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I just set up my Echo Dot with the Emby skill. It successfully plays movies, but not music. When I ask, for example "Alexa, ask Emby to play the song 'Little's Theme'" or "Alexa, tell Emby to play music by Yes". it either plays a pseudo-relevant station from iHeart or claims that it can't find the music in my collection, plays a snippet, and tells me that I can get the rest on Amazon Music Unlimited. The music is already in my Emby library.WHat do I have to do to get it to play my music? That's the main reason that I got the Dot.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 What if you are locked in into the Emby skill (begin emby/talk to emby, then saying your play command), does it work then?
josephzitt 1 Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 Hm. When I open Emby by saying "Alexa, open Emby", it only understands that I mean Emby and not a variety of NBA things about half he time. When it does, and I then say "play <movie or song name", I consistently get "Sorry, I'm having trouble accessing your Emby player" or it says that it can't find my Emby player. The player is indeed online and, as far as I can tell, available.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 (edited) What is your emby player? I see your request in log, but when the query to get your players is done, nothing is being returned by your server. Edited March 22, 2018 by Angelblue05
josephzitt 1 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 It's Version 3.3.1.0 running under Windows 10.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 What? What is the player you want to send playback to.
josephzitt 1 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 Maybe I don't understand your question.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) Theater? Kodi? Roku? Chromecast? I ask this because for some reason, it's not returning as a player that's controllable by you. Edited March 23, 2018 by Angelblue05
josephzitt 1 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 The single time that it successfully played a movie, it detected the Emby web player I have running within Mozilla, and claimed that it was setting it as a default. It didn't ask again.
josephzitt 1 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) I just started up Emby Theater. When I had Alexa open Emby and asked "Play the movie Destino", it said "Done. What else?" It opened Destino in the Mozilla Emby window, but, unlike last time, didn't start it until I closed Emby Theater (which I had to do to access Mozilla, since it blocked me Alt-Tab from working), and went to that tab. I then went back to the main Emby page, had Alexa open Emby, and asked "Play the song Awaken by Yes." It played a sample of it then stopped. When I did the same thing again, I got "Sorry, I'm having trouble accessing your Emby skill right now." Edited March 23, 2018 by josephzitt

Angelblue05 4132 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I am thinking but the session cannot be longer than 8 seconds. Do you have a large music library?
josephzitt 1 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 I am thinking but the session cannot be longer than 8 seconds. Do you have a large music library? Yes, about eighty thousand tracks. Interestingly, Alexa just got Emby to play music. But first it asked me which of three items I would like -- and all three items were the same,
Angelblue05 4132 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 If you search in your webclient, for "awaken", does it take long to get results?
josephzitt 1 Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 If you search in your webclient, for "awaken", does it take long to get results? Yes, searches tend to take a long time and often never return results. I suspect that Emby Server just needs more power, memory, or whatever than my relatively recent PC can supply. That would be disappointing. 1
