New Emby / Media Server User

I am new to media servers and was going to go with Plex but heard about Emby and it's been awesome. The only thing I don't have an understanding of is how to structure my media folders and videos. I know there is documentation with examples but I just don;t get it. I get a lot of duplicate video names even though the videos have different titles. Can someone tell me the best way to name and organize episodes? Here's my structure:

 

Emby titles all the videos under this folder "An Unearthly child 1"

 

M:\Doctor Who\S01E01(001) An Unearthly Child Parts 1-4
³       Doctor Who - S01E01(001) An Unearthly Child(1) An Unearthly Child.avi
³       Doctor Who - S01E01(001) An Unearthly Child(2) The Cave of Skulls.avi

What does your folder structure look like? (How have you filed each episode? including the folders)

 

Try renaming your folders + episodes so it looks ike this:

 

M:/Doctor Who/Season 01/Doctor Who - S01E01.avi

M:/Doctor Who/Season 01/Doctor Who - S01E02.avi

M:/Doctor Who/Season 01/Doctor Who - S01E03.avi

...etc

Your biggest issue is the naming as the folder and the episode don't correspond with the providers.

I get what you're trying to accomplish (linked episodes within a series) but there isn't really an infrastructure for Emby to handle this kind of thing. What would you expect the episodes to be named and how should they appear in series/folder structures?

 

It's best to follow emby1234's suggestion and then rename the episodes in the Metadata Manager to how you want them to appear (e.g. instead of "The Forest of Fear", using "An Unearthly Child Part 3 - The Forest of Fear")

We plan to be able to accommodate a mish-mash style folder structure in the future, we're just not there yet. Right now we do require a little bit of structure.
