Is there a way to define sound settings different media uses?

Like for audio (music) use DirectSound (I use DFX sound DSP which sets up as default)

and for video I use passthrough (Sony AV driver on my system)... so as to not add any effects to the sound.

The way it seems now is that Emby Theater just uses the default sound setting for Windows for both...

I may be wrong but I haven't found the way to change it.

Thanks.

Are you using the store app, or desktop app?

Posted

Probably the desktop... I downloaded it from here.

Not really a lot of configuration options but that's probably better for plug n play.

Have you explored the settings in the app? There's quite a few actually.

Let me take another look and possibly download a new version.

Thanks

The desktop app will have quite a few settings.

Thanks, somehow I ended up with something that had very few settings and have now installed desktop version.

One thing though, my TV is set to 3840 x 2160 for resolution and for some reason the UI is very jerky and slow with Emby Theater  to the point I won't use it. If I make the window smaller then everything becomes smooth. I believe my computer has the resources running Windows 10 on i5 machine..... No other software has exhibited this.

I thought I had read someone else having UI problems on 4k TV and search but came up empty. (other than jittery movie playback which I don't have).  I could have also read it on an entirely different forum somewhere else... (since I jump around so often in search of the holy grail).

Thanks again for your efforts through the years!

What do you have your refresh rate set to?

Posted

24 at the moment.... I also tried 29.

It seems 24 offers the smoothest movie playback, at least on my system. (but neither helps jumpy UI)

Intel video

Also set to keep aspect ratio.

I have tried setting to change refresh rate to match movie but no luck there and have found best to leave that setting unticked.

So your desktop is set to 24Hz? That's why it's jerky. Try it at 60Hz. And if you want playback to be at the original framerate, you can use refresh rate switching.

23.97Hz may also work, probably 23Hz in the selection.

My suggestion would be to just keep everything at 60Hz. MPV will interpolate, and give you very smooth playback. That's how I have mine set. But many prefer using refresh rate switching. Keeping your desktop at 60Hz is highly recommended, though.

I don't have an option at 3840 x 2160 for 60Hz, only 23, 24, 29, and 30Hz.

If I drop down to 1920 x 1080, then I get a 60Hz option but UI still is very erratic.

I have my server and client on same machine... Intel i5 but have all my storage on another Windows machine that runs a bit slower.

I'm thinking maybe the data from storage is not coming quick enough to server...... dunno.

Was just hoping it was something simple but I'll have to experiment further.

Thanks

@@JDizzy Try 23Hz. What motherboard and model of i5 do you have?
