mikkelnl 2 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Hi, Been testing Emby Server on a Synology NAS and on a Nvidia Shield Pro. Both show the same problem: when I view x265/HVEC content in Chrome webbrowser, or in the Emby iOS app, they will stutter when subtitles are enabled. But, not not with all subtitles, it seems (at least the webbrowser player) sometimes does work. I don't know what more to test, but is this a known thing, or is there anything I can test specifically to better understand what is going on? Thanks.
Luke 42085 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Hi, probably because they have to be burned in with transcoding and this might not be happening fast enough to be playable. If you can attach the emby server and ffmpeg logs then we can confirm that or if it's something else. Thanks.

During playback of the x265 content, I see in the 'stats for nerds' info that it is transcoding because subtitle format is not supported. When I disable the subs on that content it transcodes very quick. server-63656409600.txt ffmpeg-remux-1a037fe2-2efb-43dc-b4aa-36d139ee3919.txt ffmpeg-remux-f06ef5c1-5734-469d-8959-df46d47409e8.txt ffmpeg-transcode-6af74165-42e2-4fcf-b68d-ea843613923a.txt Edited March 12, 2018 by mikkelnl
mastrmind11 722 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) So thats your answer. Get rid of the burned in subs and download the externals. Edited March 12, 2018 by mastrmind11
Luke 42085 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Hi yes your transcoding with the subtitles included is just not happening fast enough. The easiest resolution would be to acquire external text subtitles and use those instead. We have a subtitle download feature built into the server that can help with that. Thanks.
mikkelnl 2 Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) It seems the problem is VOBSUB type subs, and indeed selecting SRT subs works fine. FYI: Plex also has problems with this Guessing there is no option in Emby somewhere to ignore VOBSUBs by default? Edited March 13, 2018 by mikkelnl
Luke 42085 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Hi, there is no option but you could use our subtitle naming guidelines to mark your external subtitles as default.
