JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 I am new to Emby and I just installed it. I added 8 libraries comprised of , two home video and photos, three TV shows, and three movies. All of them except my main movie library show videos or photographs, My main movie library contains 4,827 movies and it is used by plex also. In plex all the movies show in the movie library, However, in Emby does not show any movies. the movie folder for this library contains several sub-folders and they are subtitles for the Godfather movies, plex versions of some movies, a TotalCmd sub folder, and _2 sub folder, and a _gsdata_ sub folder, The movie collection contains AVI, MP4, and MKV movie formats. What could I do to fix the problem with not showing any movies in this library?
Luke 42079 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Hi there, welcome. Has the initial library scan completed after adding your movies? If you're not sure, try running another scan. Let us know if this helps. Thanks.
JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 Yes I have run several scans and I have even tried to replace all the metadata and it still does not show any movies in that library.
JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 I just added 4 movies to that library and they showed up in the recent scan Plus one other Pirates of the Caribbean movies that was added a couple of years ago under plex before Emby was installed. Very strange that only 5 movies are showing?
JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 Prior to all of this I have tried several times to remove the library and re-add it and this did not improve or change the amount of movies that appear in this library.
JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 One other fact that may be important is that all 8 of the libraries reside on another network computer and they are on a storage space drive that has 8 physical hard drives. Now since 7 of the libraries are rather small they are most likely are contained on one physical hard drive. However, the large movie folder is spread over several hard drives.
JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 I recently completely removed Emby. Rebooted and re-downloaded Emby server from the internet. Then re-installed Emby and added the movie library again and only the five movies I mentioned previously appeared in the movie library. Thus, the problem is reproducible and was not due to an installation problem or glitch. Other software like Media Center Master, All MY Movies, and Movie Collector scan this movie folder just fine and they find all 4,000 + movies. So, it is not likely there is a problem with the movie folder itself.
Solution JohnTuri 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Solution Posted March 11, 2018 I think I found the solution myself. I got to looking at the file attributes of the movies that did appear in my movie library and they weren't hidden. The ones that didn't appear were all marked hidden. So, I got into Windows power shell (Admin) on the windows 10 computer that the movie folder was on. Then in basically the command prompt I got into the movies folder. Then, I entered the following command: attrib -s -h -r /s /d *.* The above command changes the attributes to remove system, hidden, and archive from all the files in the folder you are in. Somehow or some virus or software changed all my files as a point in time to hidden, so, the above command fixed the problem. I hope this helps someone else. Thank you for your help and consideration
Luke 42079 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Interesting. So you're saying plex doesn't ignore hidden files?
stormense 1 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 (edited) Same here. That's the reason I leave Emby. Can not red any movies. TV series work fine but not movies. Unraid Emby docker. Edited June 20, 2018 by stormense
Luke 42079 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 @@stormense, can you please go over an example? Thanks !
