Pas0 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Hi I am having an issue with emby and chromecast in the last few days. I will start a program from my local server using the Android app which plays fine, after a random time it will stop playing and drop back to the ready to cast display on the chromecast. This is happening on 3 different chromecast devices, and two different android devices. The activity on the server dashboard is indicating that the cast was stopped by the device, which is not user initiated. This is happening with the same files/movies that have worked perfectly fine in the past 6 months+ that I have owned chromecast devices. The timeframe for dropping out has been 30s upto 5-10 mins random files are all dropping out. server version 3.3.1.0 Win 10 Android version is upto date on both devices. Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.
Luke 42083 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Hi there, welcome. Can you please discuss an example and attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
Pas0 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 Hi Sorry here are the logs, The issue in question starts around 15:45 or line 11668 As for an example of the problem I will select media to play from my android phone emby app, then cast said media. The media will play for a random amount of time and then it stops playing and the casted screen returns to "emby ready to cast". If I replay the same media it will start again and drop out again. server-63656272862.txt ffmpeg-remux-59fc1c05-25d3-4a10-8ea6-4eaffee58a23.txt ffmpeg-remux-31ff45f1-d823-42b1-a554-75775c65ee4f.txt ffmpeg-remux-9134beeb-7c7d-4f0c-8a0a-f79bda5b93fb.txt
Luke 42083 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Hi, most likely the bitrate is just too high. Try lowering the chromecast quality setting in your casting app. Try setting it to 10 mbps. If you find that is successful, then you can try raising it from there.
Pas0 0 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) So likely a network congestion or similar? This is happening on 3 different chromecast, one of which is a hardwired ultra and this issue has only recently started. If the bitrate was previously on auto shouldn't it be dynamically lowered to suit the data flow available? This also just happened again after setting to 10mbps on the hardwired device. Luke 42083 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Currently we don't set any limits when you're on you're local network. In other words, Auto will give you the highest possible value and it's very possible it could just be too much. If you saw the issue on 10 mbps, then you could try 5 mbps and see how that compares.
Pas0 0 Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 Hi Luke, This issue is ongoing, it has happened a few times this evening and over the previous days. It has improved somewhat compared to when I initially posted. This is at 5mbps though. Still at random times. First time this evening was about 2 hours in, while the second time was 10 mins on a different movie. Seems odd that it has only been a problem in the last few weeks. Thanks. server-63657040034.txt ffmpeg-remux-61a027e9-1af7-4644-90f9-57e72e33ef1b.txt
Luke 42083 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 There's no obvious problem in these logs, and that generally will point to a network failure of some sort. You may want to try lowering even more to about 3 mbps.
