interman 18 Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Not sure if this is a bug or if Emby was part of the issue, but I really could use some help troubleshooting. Today I tried to play one of my movie files and it would not play in Emby. I had just played it a week ago. Long story short, i tried to play it in MPC and it said "cannot render the file". I tried maybe 3 dozen others and they are corrupted as well. I tried VLC and that did not work. I cannot find any reason or commonality. I ran virus checkers on the server and clients and no viruses came up.The hard drive is new but I ran error checker on it as well, with no errors. The only things (at all) that I can see if that the folders with corrupted files all have the same date (but not all the folders with the date have corrupted files). But the date is the date I installed Emby. I have not deleted about 30-40 files that are corrupted and stopped long enough to ask you all this question. What troubleshooting steps would you take? Don P.S. on a related note. Emby client on my Galaxy S7 gave me a notification last week of "Test", but when I clicked on it, nothing came up. The timing was similar to when I think these files were corrupted. Any thoughts?
Luke 42091 Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Hi, emby won't actually save over your media files. Do you have a backup? You said the drive is new, did the files originally come from a different drive?
interman 18 Posted March 10, 2018 Author Posted March 10, 2018 Yes, I have backups of everything. Some of the files did come from another device but some did not. Right now, I am more in diagnostic mode to figure why. Thanks on the information on EMBY. One question. Are there any add-ons that do anything to the files, like change the header information or something else innocuous that could make the file unreadable? Anyway, I appreciate the response even since Emby is not the cause. I have been looking for a reason to rebuild the server from scratch, so here it is. Great work on the product. Don
Luke 42091 Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 The ploymorph tv addon is the only one I can think of. If this drive checks out ok then you may want to scan your backup drives.
