Hi All

So I updated my Emby Server tonight (on Windows) and its keeled over. Services wont start as a result

I'm not 100% sure what version it was running before (I think it was 3.2.70), but after the upgrade the services wont start anymore. Its been running as service since back in the Media Browser days, and the service was called Media Browser.

Initially the error said cannot find the file specified I suspect because the exe seems to have a different name (EmbyServer.exe)

I've done messing around trying to recreate the service, but no joy. I'm now getting "The Emby service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 2 time(s)." in the event viewer

Any ideas? It doesnt even seem to be logging (or at least not in the MediaBrowser-Server\Logs folder

My install seems totally hosed.

Cheers.

Ken

Ok, make sure all windows updates are fully up to date, and then you shouldn't have any issue. thanks.

If it was an older version than your think you might need to fallow the newer instructions for running emby as a service.  You need a 3rd party app now :(.  (the sad face is for the fact you need another piece of software, not the software it self, the software works just fine).

I did follow the NSSM instructions when attempting to get the system running again, but no joy there. I've been updating the original install all along, and its never failed until today. Hopefully the windows updates will help. There are a lot of update to install though, so it will be a while before I know the result.

NSSM is something you would do after getting the core Emby server running. To run EmbyServer, just run the EmbyServer.exe file.

On Windows 7 it seems that this requires a relatively new windows update and this is unfortunate because many users don't discover that until there's a problem, but it is what it is.

Thanks Luke. Yeah, I tried running it directly, but nothing appeared to happen. Process starts and stops immediately. Barely flashes up in Task Manager. If its as simple as Windows Update, then happy days. My system had about 600MB (129 updates) on the first pass. Its half way through those. Knowing Windows as I do, I expect at least one more Windows Update pass before its fully up to date. Will advise when I get through them all. As always, thanks for the support.

@@Happy2Play, didn't we isolate which windows update is required? granted, if it depends on all previous ones then just that knowledge along wouldn't actually help in speeding up the process.

No there were to many updates on a new install of Windows 7, to isolate which ones.
