But he's playing h264 movies, not VC1

Codec tagavc1

AVCYes

I'llgo try and find a VC1 sample online somewhere.

Vc1 files normally would have a vc1 extension though not mp4

If he looks at the details in the web app or Android mobile app, it'll say h264

it's tiny, make it 5-10 mins for a real test since your other one failed around the 1 min mark.  post it or test locally, and we'll check your sample (others will beat me since I'm on my way out for the night).

I'll be able to check it when I get off work, in a few hours.

The original did not play at all. It made attempts to play for a minute but never did.

With DLNA now turned on and trying to play using vlc the original fails right off the bat while the 1 min version plays fine.

I wonder if it's a container issue. Try giving it a quick remux.

seriously, just post a sample for us to try.  it's family friendly, and if not, I won't judge.

I did. post #34

It either loads or it doesnt for some reason the 1 min sample loads fine but the full movie does not load at all.

Thats my point.  If it loads on yours, it will loadon mine and everyone elses. Make it longer so we can rule out environment... need to get to playing it.

Even better, depending on it's full size, can you throw it on a cloud drive and share the link? If it's only a few gigs, that is. Then we can truly test.

Lol I will have to see if i have enough room on one of my cloud accounts.

I really should look into scaling this thing down, 2 hours and its 5.5gigs.

The reason I suggested that, was because then we can use the exact file that you are. Even lopping off a piece I will cause a container remodel. So Mastermind's suggestion is good. If you lop off a big chunk, test it, if it plays, sharing it will be redundant. At that point, we'll need the whole thing.

Its currently uploading to dropbox. ETA 2 hours ( 5 meg upload speed :()

I am going to also scale it down 5 gigs is huge for my movies most are 1 gig or so. Except my wifes old movies which are like 3 or 4 hours long also lol.

Lol... I suspect that once you transcode it, you won't have any issues playing it. I think the largest movie I've got is around 70GB :)

OFFS I scaled it down a little bit ( now at 3.5 gig ) and it plays, takes a little bit to load but it plays now.

Something must have been off on it. What i dont get is that i have a program on my laptop i used for nearly all the movies in my collection and i used the same profile for all of them. I think this one and like 2 other movies gave me problems.

My wifes movies are significantly larger in play time and file size.

After you scaled it down, what the codecs show?

I have a feeling it was how they were muxed. Sometimes slight errors can occur. So then some players will be able to split them easily, and others might have issues.

And for the curious minded, here's the difference between H264 and VC1. Here's the same movie in each of those codecs

VC1
