Richard Branches 330 Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 I noticed when I play a video and stop it after a few seconds, Emby marks the video as watched, the same occurs with the music, If I play a song and stop it after a few seconds, Emby marks the song as recently played. This happens with every app I tested (Android mobile, Android TV, Windows app, web app).

Richard Branches 330 Posted September 12, 2018 Author Posted September 12, 2018 I noticed today on the latest beta for Android TV, this issue is still present.
ebr 16182 Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 If I play a song and stop it after a few seconds, Emby marks the song as recently played. That is as designed. You did just play it. As for "incorrectly" marking videos as watched, that almost has to be a problem with either configuration or the probed information on your media as that is working properly in every app at this time.

When I tested the DTS video that we're having issues with on the other topic, after the few seconds you asked me to play it and then to send the log, I noticed the video was marked as watched.
ebr 16182 Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Are you sure it wasn't already marked as watched?
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 12, 2018 Author Posted September 12, 2018 Are you sure it wasn't already marked as watched? Yes!, I'm sure! , I'm not crazy!
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 12, 2018 Author Posted September 12, 2018 Are you sure it wasn't already marked as watched? I'm gonna try to record a video and you will see I'm not lying.
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 The video is not necessary because I was testing this again and noticed the app is marking videos as watched if they are less than two minutes length, like trailers, I have a few videos like that and they are getting marked when they shouldn't unless I watch the whole video.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 So the 90% rule isn't being applied to short media. Dashboard-Playback Titles are assumed fully played if stopped after this time
Luke 42078 Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 If I play a song and stop it after a few seconds, Emby marks the song as recently played. We've always done this.

Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 Have you explored the resume settings in the emby server dashboard? If you're talking about this: I honestly haven't paid attention to those settings but now that you mention it what can I change here?
Luke 42078 Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Can you read them and see if any of them will benefit your usage pattern? If it's not obvious then we have failed. Thanks.

If it's not obvious then we have failed. Thanks. I guess I have to increase say from 5% to 50% if I don't want videos and even music to be marked as played when I stop playback before that limit, is that correct? Luke 42078 Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 And also lower the min resume duration.
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 And also lower the min resume duration. Min resume duration default value is 300 seconds = 5 minutes but I'm not sure what to put. why is necessary to lower this?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 @@Luke Since the media is under 5 minutes, none of those setting actually apply correct?
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 Looks like it's working for videos, I made a quick test and they didn't get marked but it's not working for music, is there something I'm missing here or is there something you can do to include music in those settings?
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 Min resume duration default value is 300 seconds = 5 minutes but I'm not sure what to put. why is necessary to lower this? I get it now, every video I play will be able to resume where I left off if they are stopped after the value in that setting, in the case of 300 seconds (5 minutes), if I stop playback before that mark I won't be able to resume where I left off but if I stop the video after that amount of time, then I will be able to resume where I left off.
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 (edited) @@Luke Since the media is under 5 minutes, none of those setting actually apply correct? No, this is not about the total duration of the video, this is the minimum amount of time the server will take into account to mark the video as resumable, obviously, videos below this setting will never be marked as resumable unless we decrease the value. Edited September 13, 2018 by delacosta78
Richard Branches 330 Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 (edited) I've been making more tests and found out that If I increase the "Min resume percentage" to 50%, "Min resume duration" at its default value (300 seconds) won't work, videos won't be marked as resumable because the former is taking priority over the latter, so the "Min resume duration" value must be increased (1200 seconds) as well in order to work, I realized that 10% of "Min resume percentage" allow "Min resume duration" to marked videos as resumable with the default value. However, "Min resume percentage" is not working for music, I don't like when I start music playback and I a hear a song I don't want to listen to at that moment and hit the next button, but the song is marked as "Recently Played" anyway and that annoys me Edited September 13, 2018 by delacosta78
Luke 42078 Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 However, "Min resume percentage" is not working for music There is no such thing as resume for music, therefore you cannot really say that something isn't working.

I think the server is not doing correctly what I explained above and instead, it should do the following: if I play a video shorter than the value in "Min resume duration", playback should only take into account "Min resume percentage" and "Max resume percentage". But, if the video is longer than the value in "Min resume duration", then playback should only take into account "Max resume percentage" and "Min resume duration", because the minimum value was passed, which means, a resume point is created and the video appears automatically in "Continue Watching" (as long as I stop playback before the value in "Max resume percentage"). Everytime I resume and stop playback again, a new resume point will be saved. Finally when the video reaches the "Max resume percentage" value and I stop playback, the video will be marked as watched and will be removed automatically from "Continue Watching".
