all4dom 101 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Do all silcon dust tuners work with emby? I'm looking soon to setup live tv & want to make sure what ever I get is compatible. Thanks Dom
all4dom 101 Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 I also came across a Hauppauge win tv quad hd tuner. Just currious, what are people using & how much success have you had with your device work I g with emby.
Luke 42077 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I would recommend an HD Homerun network tuner. 1
all4dom 101 Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 @@Luke, are all of the current hd homerun models considered network tuners?
jasonmcroy 316 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Yes, all of the HDHomerun tuners are "network" tuners. The differences lie in whether you need it to pull in your cable TV signal or whether you are using an OTA Antenna and need it to pull in that signal. The model called "Prime" is the one that only does the Cable TV channels.
Sammy 790 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Question.. Thinking of going OTA and streaming the rest via YoutubeTV or SlingTV or even DirecTV Now etc.. CONNECT 4-Tuner or EXTEND Dual Tuner with transcoding? I run Emby Server on an i5 4690K Devil's Canyon. The connect gets twice the tuners for a bit more than half the price of the extend.. Do I really need transcoding? My Server seems to transcode just fine but it does give a little delay while it forms the buffer.
clarkss12 304 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I have an Extend and haven't used the transcoding feature in years. I personally think you would be better served with the Connect. IF you use the Live TV feature outside of your home network, and IF your UP bandwidth does NOT support the heavy un-transcoded stream, and IF your server doesn't have enough power to transcode the stream, then the Extend may make sense. 1
Sammy 790 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Right now I get about 12mbps up and I have clients throttled.. My family and friends at 1.5mbps. My wife and I get 4mbps. We haven't had any issues other than the initial buffering which I bet the extend would do too.
jasonmcroy 316 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I had two extend units and like clarkss12 I never really used the transcoding feature. When the Quatro and Duo tuners were released last year I bought one of each and replaced my Exends so I would have 6 total tuners instead of 4. Since I watch everything in home on my own network I rarely need any transcoding and if needed Emby does it just fine on it's own. 1
