psybertech 33 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 New to emby and I love a lot of things that Plex is missing! But, I have some questions/concerns..... I have my server on Ubuntu Server 16.04 (though I don't think the server is the issue, but who knows).... My TV naming conventions and storage schemes work 100% in Plex, but some just don't work as expected in emby... example.... TVSHOW_NAME\Season XX\nameOfShow SXXEYY.EXT Works perfect all the time in emby! TVSHOW_NAME\nameOfShow SXXEYY.EXT sometimes works? Sometimes emby will parse and show the seasons inside the seasons/series broken down by the season numbers and sometimes not. When it doesn't allow season choices, it is a pain in the a$$ to select and browse. Shows scrape and track fine, but don't have season/series choices. I do not want to go and create and move all the problems into dedicated 'Season XX' folders. I just don't get why it is not an all or nothing setting. It should work the same all the time. It doesn't seem to. Am I missing something subtle??? FWIW: I use FileBot for my naming and its set to 'TVSHOWNAME - SXXEYY - EPISOODE_NAME.EXT' A byproduct problem with this is that in Plex I have a DVR like folder that is just 'TVSHOWNAME - SXXEYY - EPISOODE_NAME.EXT' and emby doesn't scrape or track any of these. These shows, for me, are throw aways. I won't be keeping them, but I do want the details and want to keep track of watched status and whats up next. emby doesn't do this. Plex does. This is a HUGE thing for me and my family and users. I need to have a generic folder that stores (temporarily) properly named TV shows that gets scraped and handled until they are deleted without having full folder hierarchies. The names should be enough to scrape just like Plex. I don't mind the lack of the season/series break downs since these are not stored long, but I do want them scraped and tracked in emby. Am I missing something to ensure that TV shows that are in a "DVR/DUMP" folder or a folder that may be nested that will allow perfect names like 'TVSHOWNAME - SXXEXX - EPISOODE_NAME.EXT' be added without a TV show name or season/series X parent folder to be added properly? Again... loving emby so far! Any help or input would be appreciated. j
ebr 16184 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 This is really two different questions. Can we address the first one first. This should work if that's truly how they are defined: TVSHOW_NAME\nameOfShow SXXEYY.EXT Can we please see the details of an example that doesn't work and one that does? Screen shots of the actual folder structure and contents will help. Thanks.
Luke 42078 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Hi @@psybertech, yes if you can please provide an example or two we're happy to help. Thanks.
psybertech 33 Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 So sorry for the late reply. Not like me to flake on a reply, but lots going on lately... some fun and some just work. :/ OK... As I said, I just started using emby. So I decided to wipe it out and start over. This time, I let things run for a day and change before looking. Now I can confirm the single series issue is limited to only cases where the structure is: TheShow --SubFolder ----SeasonX ------ep(properlynamed) ------ep(properlynamed) ------ep(properlynamed) or TheShow --SubFolder ----ep(properlynamed) ----ep(properlynamed) ----ep(properlynamed) or TheShow --SubFolder ----SeasonX ------ep(properlynamed) ------ep(properlynamed) ------ep(properlynamed) The moment I have a subfolder that isn't a SeasonXX folder is when it happens. I know I saw it happen when I first posted for shows like: TheShow --ep(properlynamed) --ep(properlynamed) --ep(properlynamed) but I can't reproduce it now. I think maybe it was still sorting things out during the initial scan? I don't know, but don't care at this point really. Its working and although the shows that do have a SubFolder in the middle annoy me, I can live with that since the scraping, and more importantly, the Up Next feature has no problem tracking it like that. Its just an odd presentation of what it perceives. I'd love to see it present seasons no matter how deep the files may be nested to improve the browsing in whatever UI, but that's a small annoyance if anything. SO ALL IS WELL ON THAT FRONT So.. that just leaves the issue of non-matching shows in a dump folder: DumpFolder: --ShowNameA SxxEyy (optional misc) [res].ext --ShowNameB SxxEyy (optional misc) [res].ext --ShowNameZ SxxEyy (optional misc) [res].ext These don't scrape until I create a parent folder for each. Its far from ideal but I added a step to my main script that helps dump, move and rename the files there in the first place to now create folders for shows I don't want to keep long-term in the dump folder. It just mucks things up and makes a simple director much more complex. I don't like the 'look' of the folder having to keep all these disposable show folders lying around, but I have OCD or something so whatever. I use Trakt to sync watched status and let Plex passively delete the watched dumped files. BUT...........As long as the emby apps are happy and work in the UI(s) as needed, great! I'd still love to have the scrape be based solely on the type selected on the library entry and not be reliant on a parent folder, but for now, I get it and have scripted my way around it. So... consider this closed for me for now. Just consider scraping solely on file name and the library type. Its just cleaner and easier all around. Thanks! Loving emby so far!!!
Luke 42078 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Thanks for the feedback. Yes we are currently reliant on some minimum folder structure for TV series but it's something we'd like to improve in the future. Thanks !
