Logos302 86 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 I'm not sure if this is an issue or a miss understanding of how it supposed to work. I have a TV show set as TV-Y, and a user set as CA-G. Now as I understand it this should be the same thing (Canada vs USA). but the user don't seem to see the tv show. What am I missing?
ebr 16187 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 Hi. What gives you the understanding that those two should be equivalent? TV-Y is a higher level than G:
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) Well there localization values are different as ebr shows "G" is lower then "Y". localization values CA CA-G,1 CA-PG,5 CA-14A,7 CA-A,8 CA-18A,9 CA-R,10 US APPROVED,1 G,1 E,1 EC,1 TV-G,1 TV-Y,2 TV-Y7,3 TV-Y7-FV,4 PG,5 TV-PG,5 PG-13,7 T,7 TV-14,8 R,9 M,9 TV-MA,9 NC-17,10 AO,15 RP,15 UR,15 NR,15 X,15 XXX,100 You can see these values in *\Emby-Server\localization Edited March 3, 2018 by Happy2Play
ebr 16187 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 You can see these values in *\Emby-Server\localization Or just look at the list in the UI .
Logos302 86 Posted March 3, 2018 Author Posted March 3, 2018 I was just using what I got from the (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_content_rating_system) The descriptions seems the same/ similar, but based on what Happy2Play showed they are different, but canada doesn't seem to have an equivalent to TV-Y. So how does Emby handle that? Where does it show this in the UI? G – Suitable for general audiences. Programming suitable for the entire family with mild violence, and mild profanity and/or censored language. TV-Y – This program is aimed at a very young audience, including children from ages 2–6. 1
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) It also comes down to Emby's interpitation of "TV-Y" having a higher rating then "G". By defintion it is wrong. Every where I have looked "Y" is lower then 'G". Edited March 3, 2018 by Happy2Play
Logos302 86 Posted March 3, 2018 Author Posted March 3, 2018 This gives me a problem, as for as an example Paw Patrol is TV-Y. Which well based on Canada rating it would be G. Is there any way for emby to use Canada's ratings for show rather then US? or is there a setting I could give to my kid user that would allow this to work with out giving them too much. IE CA-PG
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 Everything with TV-Y would still be blocked using CA ratings, as it has a higher restiction value. So you either need to set parental controls to TV-Y or give the shows with issues a custom rating. As for using CA rating values, I believe you have to switch the UI setting to French (Canada). Dashbaord-Settings-Preferred display language
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) Most of these issue will probably come down to the shows not having parental codes for specific localization. TMDB example of only one rating (community driven) Edited March 3, 2018 by Happy2Play
Logos302 86 Posted March 3, 2018 Author Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) It's actually set to English UK as there is no English Canada. So I guess I could set it to English US and see if that works better for me. edit correction that's the displayed language. How does one set the local? , never mind found it. It's set to Canada, giving me the Canadian settings, minus Quebec which has a different ratting system. Edited March 3, 2018 by Logos302
Logos302 86 Posted March 3, 2018 Author Posted March 3, 2018 (edited) What would changing the location from Canada to US actually do to my setup? And with out having a direct comparison in Canada, what would someone need to set to get TV-Y in Canada rating? Edited March 3, 2018 by Logos302
Luke 42083 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 @@Happy2Play what change do you think we should make?
ebr 16187 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 Based on this: G – Suitable for general audiences. Programming suitable for the entire family with mild violence, and mild profanity and/or censored language. TV-Y – This program is aimed at a very young audience, including children from ages 2–6. It looks like we need to give TV-Y a value of 0. 1
