Logos302 86 Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 What is everyone using for IR receiver for there shield? As the 2017 model non-pro doesn't have an IR receiver I thought I'd just use the old MCE remote one I had for my pc. Doesn't seem to work. OR maybe I'm just doing something wrong.
Sammy 790 Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I use my harmony hub for my 2015 shield. BTW, what else works with the 2015 model? I might be putting one in another room or three that don't have hubs but rather Harmony Ones or Harmony 900's. Thanks.
Solution ebr 16178 Posted March 3, 2018 Solution Posted March 3, 2018 Nothing. I program my remote to talk to my TV and let CEC do the work. 2
Sammy 790 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 CEC doesn't work well when there's an AVR in between the TV and the Source (in this case the ShieldTV) or at least it didn't back in the day when I tried. That said, these other rooms won't have an AVR most likely but at least one of them has a TV that I don't believe has CEC on it. What to do in such a case?

That's my setup and I find it works fine - YMMV. Also means my remote works properly when the TV itself pops up some sort of message.
Logos302 86 Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 Any advice on CEC never used it before. Is there anything I know before I try it?
mastrmind11 722 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Any advice on CEC never used it before. Is there anything I know before I try it? Just make sure your TV and AVR/Pre supports it and that you're using the proper HDMI port on your TV (it'll be labeled CEC and/or ARC)

Kramerika 18 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Flirc Flirc receiver: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS2V7GM/ IR learning remote: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M4JYTWA/ The original Shield TV didn't need the Flirc receiver to work with that remote (as I have both versions). It's a shame that they changed that.
Logos302 86 Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 I set HDMI-CEC as that seemed to be the cheapest answer as I had everything I needed already . My TV called it something different but that was an easy google. Thank you all for your input. Now I just need to do some tweaking to get all the buttons to work they way I want them.
