gfrung4 0 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 (edited) I've been having an annoying issue with Emby and I think I've finally figured it out. Every 10 minutes or so of playing live TV on my Roku I would get an error: An unexpected problem (but not server timeout or HTTP error) has been detected. I've tracked it down, and the error appears exactly when the available disk space on my server reaches 0. I haven't asked Emby to record anything, but it seems it is storing what I'm watching to allow for live rewind. The disk fills up and an "unexpected problem" occurs. The best solution to this would be to detect full disk and delete the oldest video in the live TV buffer, so I can continue watching uninterrupted. I realize the amount of rewind time would be limited by my disk space, but it shouldn't stop playing entirely when it runs out. Just delete the oldest parts and keep going. If that would be too hard to implement, at least make the error message more descriptive. If it had said that the disk space ran out, I would have known what was causing the problem so I could free up space. It would also be nice to have some settings for this. I couldn't find anywhere to set how much live TV rewind time is saved, or to turn it off completely. It should be possible to turn it off and watch live TV without the ability to rewind, or to set the rewind time to something low, like 5 or 10 minutes, since I would only use that feature when doing something quick, like running to the bathroom during a show. It'd also be nice to set the bit rate of live TV. When I watch live TV on my Roku, Emby says it's "direct streaming", so no transcoding occurs. However, just because my Roku can play the stream directly doesn't mean I don't want it to transcode. Live TV is using about 200MB of disk space per minute to allow for rewind. If it were transcoded to a lower bitrate, it would be possible to allow for longer rewind while using less disk space. Two options in the settings, one to set the number of minutes of live TV to save for rewind, and another to (optionally) set the bitrate of live Live TV buffer size (minutes) Live TV buffer bitrate (Mbps) Setting the bitrate would force transcoding, even if the device was capable of direct play. If these settings already exist somewhere, let me know where they are! Edited March 1, 2018 by gfrung4
Luke 42078 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Hi, there are no settings for this. It's just something we need to hash out in the future, thanks. 1
