Romesashes 2 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Emby community, In the process of testing Emby and will eventually move away from my plex premium account. I've ran into a wrinkle with subtitles. I can't get them to download to the movie folder automatically. I know that I've got a live connection to opensubtitles.org because I can go to the individual movie and download the file, however emby server won't do it automatically for each movie. Am I missing something? Thank you.
Luke 42083 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Hi have you tried running the scheduled task to download subtitles?
Romesashes 2 Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 Hi have you tried running the scheduled task to download subtitles? No I haven't. I'm at work currently and will try that when I get home. I went so far as to get rid of the library and then re-add it and rescanning the library files, would that not do the trick?
Luke 42083 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 For new files yes that will work too. Check the subtitle download settings. Perhaps for your videos the default filters are too restrictive and are preventing downloads.

Romesashes 2 Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 Let us know how you get on, thanks. Ok, Set up the subtitles search to go on application start. Restarted the server and it did it. Thank you for your help. Should library scan have done the same thing?
Luke 42083 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 The library scan will search for subtitles but only for newly added media that is discovered by the scan. In other words, just the first time. It won't search again and again for existing titles. That's what the scheduled task is for.
Romesashes 2 Posted March 4, 2018 Author Posted March 4, 2018 (edited) Ok, I'm back with this. I was only able to achieve partial success. I have two large movie folders. For one emby correctly downloading all the subtitles into the local folder without a problem. For the second all of the other metadata made it into the folder with the exception of subtitles. I have tried deleting the library and re-adding it as well as setting up subtitle scan at startup. I know when I first started setting up the server I didn't have local metadata set up for that selection of movies. I added it later. Is it possible that Emby is thinking that it already has the subs somewhere in server files and therefore isn't putting them into the media folders? Edited March 4, 2018 by Romesashes
Luke 42083 Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 Let's look at an example. please attach the information requested in how to report a problem. One tip I will have is ensure Emby Server has write access to the folder. If it doesn't then it will automatically switch to the server's internal metadata folder, in order to ensure that the downloading "just works".
Romesashes 2 Posted March 4, 2018 Author Posted March 4, 2018 Got them, Log 3 should be the most recent. Thank you. Log1.txt Log2.txt Log3.txt
Luke 42083 Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 Everything looks fine here. There are probably just no subtitles available based on the filters you chose as I mentioned in post #4. Also the subtitle downloaders are based on Imdb Id's so your movies will need to have those values filled in.
Romesashes 2 Posted March 4, 2018 Author Posted March 4, 2018 Ok, thank you for checking the logs. What filters would be too restrictive? The subtitles settings apply to all libraries unless I'm missing something. The other movie library downloaded subs just fine. Not trying to be a pain just wanting to understand.
Luke 42083 Posted March 4, 2018 Posted March 4, 2018 Any of these could cause subtitles to not be downloaded: The perfect match requirement setting The "skip when ... " settings Movie not having imdb id Please let us know if helps. Thanks.
Romesashes 2 Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 Any of these could cause subtitles to not be downloaded: The perfect match requirement setting The "skip when ... " settings Movie not having imdb id Please let us know if helps. Thanks. I finally solved this by completely removing the server and starting over. Emby has now placed subs in all my movie folders. I can only guess that since I didn't tell emby to keep metadata in local folders on initial setup it thought I already had subs and didn't need to put them into the local folders. Only a guess. Regardless thank you for your help and I'm really enjoying Emby.
