Refresh Guide takes forever

All of a sudden refresh running more than 6 hours.

I haven't started the server but what's the issue and how can i fix it?

Did you figure out the issue? I have the same problem, over 12 hours running and the guide refresh it's only at 60% on a pretty speedy machine.

Are you just looking for server logs?

 

I was hoping since the original post was a month old they might have figured it out without me have to scrub a giant log file.

So 5 days later and it's still only at 99.1%.

How many channels do you have? it looks like a really big number, probably because according to the log they aren't actually channels but they each correspond to a movie or specific video.

I am not sure the exact number but yes, there is a very large number.

(I have my vote in for added category filtering on the Live TV section and now you can see why.)

 

Is there a limit to the amount that Emby supports?

 

My IPTV provider has many VOD and time shifting options which add up for all the extra channels.

Is there a better place in Emby I should be adding these? (I don't know where else to add a m3u stream)

I just checked and there are 19472 channels and the EPG is 40,502 KB.

There's not a limit, but right now it's not quite made to handle ~ 20k channels. It's something we can look at improving. If you can send me your m3u I'll look at it myself. Thanks.

I know it's nearly 3 years later but was there any improvements delivered here? I'm sitting currently with ~4500 channels and the guide takes a very long time to update and also kills the responsiveness of the server despite low CPU.

Yes there was improvements made for loading guide data but 4500 channels is a ridiculous amount of channels no one could ever possibly use.

Slim your channels down to something reasonable that you would actually use.  I'm sure you have mostly channels in foreign languages or VOD like content that can get the boot.

You don't necessarily have to modify the source of the channels. If you can reduce the number of channels that you import by disabling the ones you don't need in Emby Server channel management, then the refresh guide process will be faster.

Where can i do this? How can i select more channels or groups at the same time?

has this been improved at all in the years since? i have the same m3u/xmltv file used in Kodi and the guide sync takes about 30 seconds first time and 2-3 for subsequent updates unless i miss a few days then its like 30 seconds or so, emby however takes 4-9 hours atleast, i believe i trimmed the VOD's and whatnot using my editor but there is alot of channels, is there any way i can make this run faster? not sure what all else it needs to do after initial scan, mostly just new epg info but wouldn't that be fairly easy to update?
