Folder View Not Showing Folders

Recommended Posts

It's just the way I have my library organized. It would allow me to nest certain collections within others and also maintain my folder structure. The old folders library worked this way and in like to maintain that capability.

Is this something you could implement?

1) The web Client doesn't appear to have a "Folders Tab" on Movies and TV Shows

Yes it does have this, for both actually.

Sorry i should have clarified. I was referring to the other request.

I would like to have the option to have the folders view collapse the movies down into collections rather than just showing them as distinct movies. The previous "Folders Library" worked this way and I'd like to maintain this ability. Is this something you could bring back to the "Folders Tab"?

It's possible for the future. Thanks.

Luke, any chance that you will be bringing collapsed collections back to the Folder view soon?

I guess I don't have a issue as I already maintain a legacy folder structure for collections so in folder view everything within that folder is already grouped, and in Movies they are individual or honor the virtual collection group setting.  To me folder view should not have the virtual collection grouping but that is me.

That is our intention at this point too - folder view is just that - viewing by the actual folder structure you have setup.  Attempting to mix auto-organization features with straight folder browsing seems like would have the potential to cause a lot of issues and confusion.

Yes we'll add it for the next set of app updates. But ebr is right though. It kind of defeats the purpose of using a folder view in the first place.

I completely understand what you guys are saying, but it still makes the most sense with how I have my my library structured. If you just add it back as an option like you have in the library view, it shouldn't screw anyone up.

I appreciate your willingness to work this back in Luke.

Hey Luke. Sorry to keep bothering you about this. I noticed that you added this option back into the apps, but it appears to only work in the first level directory. Anyway you could also allow collapsing collections within sub directories? I have nested collections within my library.

Sorry can you elaborate more as Folder tab/view shows my nested Legacy folder collections.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this.

I agree, you can setup your nested collections like that. But notice that all of those collections are just shown as folders. You don't get any of the collection metadata when you go into the folders. That is what i am really after. I would be fine with putting all of my collections into individual folders like you have shown here, but i would really like to see the metadata for that collection when i go within that collection folder.

Does that make sense?

For an example, here is how i have some of my nested folders structured right now:

Sci-Fi <--Genre Folder

  • \Star Trek <--Main Collection Folder
    • \Star Trek TOS 1 <---Movie Folder
    • ....
    • \Star Trek TOS 6 <---Movie Folder
    • \Star Trek TNG 1 <---Movie Folder
    • ...
    • \Star Trek TNG 4 <---Movie Folder
    • \Star Trek AR 1 <---Movie Folder
    • ...
    • \Star Trek AR 3 <---Movie Folder

I would like the TOS movies 1-6 to be collapsed into the TOS Collection, the TNG movies 1-4 to be collapsed into the TNG Collection, and the AR Movies 1-3 to be collapsed into the AR Collection all with their respective collection meta data and collection images shown rather than just seeing the standard folder view.

If there is a way to do this that i'm not aware of please let me know.

From folder view there is no metadata, only images as it is presenting a folder.

That's my point. I want the option to show the metadata.

Nested collections are not supported at this time. It is possible for the future, and there are open feature request topics related to them.

Luke could we add an option per library to turn off Folder view?  On some systems due to the mount points it makes folder view confusing and would be better not shown.

I can see this is an old post, but i seem to have the same issue.

I have activated "Default Screen" to Folders for all my users. including myself. But when i access my library it does not list it in folders, but "Movies" and you have to manually go op and change it to Folders everytime you open Emby... this is super frustrating, but somehow this issue only exist on Smart TV, Fire TV stick and Google TV, it works fine on Phone and PC

Those client apps have their own setting, they don't inherit Web app settings - click cog wheel top right>Library settings>Default tab.

Don't know if those clients have their own settings like the Roku but may need to check.

Also what client versions numbers?

Hi.  Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares?

Thanks.

This applies to both as they are practically same app:

From within any library, not Home Screen.
