I create my own Movies.xml files for MB3. They have been working just fine until Server version released Feb 23 2014. At that time my XML files were not loading ReleaseDate and the AspectRatio for my new movies.

Yesterday I noticed that the release date was in a different format and after inspecting the element I found that the field name was txtPremierDate so I changed my programming to create the tag <PremierDate> with the different format and MB3 accepted it and loads it.

Next I looked at AspectRatio and noticed it was called Original aspect Ratio with a field name of txtOriginalAspectRatio so I changed my tag of <AspectRatio> to <OriginalAspectRatio>. That still didn't work. I have been manually fixing the data but over time that will be hit and miss.

I also let MB3 create a it's own movies.xml but the aspect ratio tag is not in the movies.xml file.

What is the tag for Original Aspect Ratio? Is there a place where I can look up the tags myself.

Trying to manually edit/maintain these files is just going to cause continued pain in the future.  You would be much better off to use our facility to make your edits.

That might be true but right now I have a database that I set up a loooong time ago to maintain my movies. It contains a lot more info than would apply to a media server database,

I realize that it might cause me trouble in the future and I can let your system collect the info but right now it doesn't collect the aspect ratio. When I do a refresh it overwrites my data, creates a new xml file but doesn't fill the aspect ratio. These are all DVDs at the present time ripped in primarily DVD Format.

I would just like to know the tagname or where I can find the tags that the system uses.

You dropped down this and selected it here and it still overwrote your xml...?

No I hadn't set that parameter. I own you another one.

You are doing a great job all around

Thanks

Okay good.  The new metadata handling should be much less likely to overwrite things you don't want it to.

Well, it is only user-defined right now because we have no reliable on-line source for it.  It would be awesome if we did, but we don't.

Johnny, have you tried with the new server with regards to overwriting your xml files?  I think that shouldn't be happening anymore.

If you really must manually edit the xml then just fill in a value on one of your movies in the editor, save it and then go look at the xml that is created.

AspectRatio is intended to be user-defined.

We currently probe video for the raw aspect ratio but this doesn't get saved into xml because we no longer use the entire MediaInfo node.

Some people prefer to fill in their own AR value which is why it is user defined.

ebr that was a great idea with editing the file and looking at the XML file. It came back with the tag being

<AspectRatio>2.35:1</AspectRatio> unfortunately that what I was originally using and it doesn't seem to be reading that tag anymore.

I am using server Version 3.0.5188.21314. When I click Refresh while editing in the web client it pretty much overwrites all the fields. Some value were the same but some like overview and revenue for example change. Yeah I thought it wouldn't touch anything that was there and only fill in blank fields but that is just not the case.

I think I did but I can't find it now to confirm. I tried everything in Dashboard

Did you select the "Only fill in missing data" option?
