Server running, but unreachable

Recommended Posts

Emby server is running on my local machine (per task manager and the log files), but it's unreachable.  Attempting to load emby via WMC gives everybody's favorite "could not connect to media browser 3 server" message.  Trying to load the dashboard (http://localhost:8096/) gives a "page cannot be displayed".  The log file is full of errors, but I'm not quite sure what to make of them.  I have, of course, restarted emby, rebooted the computer, etc.

This seems to have started (or gotten worse?) after a recent update.  If it matters, it's possible that I was behind on updates - it had been months since I had actually needed to open the dashboard, and this one was waiting for me when I opened it a few days ago.

Log attached.  Thanks for your help.

Sorry there is no way to troubleshoot a version that is 2 years out of date.

hi @@bobert, i would suggest updating to the latest version of emby server, although please be aware, you'll have to wait about another 45 minutes before you can do that as we are working on updating our installers. thanks.

Thanks for the info.  Out of curiosity, is there a way to set emby server to automatically update or prompt for updates?  Like many users, I'm a "get it working and then don't touch it" kind of guy.  There's every chance that it had been a year or two since I last accessed the dashboard.  Just curious if there's a feature I'm missing (or turned off without knowing, or something).

It does automatically update but coming from a two year gap it won't happen for you because you've missed out on changes along the way. You might even consider a new install.

Thanks.  It looks like the upgrade worked - it's running normally now.

I understand that it would have trouble automatically upgrading after a 2-year gap, but there has to be a reason it didn't upgrade itself during that gap.  I've got "Enable automatic server updates" and "Allow the server to restart automatically to apply updates" checked.  Is there something else I should be looking at, so I don't end up back here again in a few months because it hasn't upgraded?

It's hard to determine what might have happened in the past, so I would say let's just monitor it going forward. thanks.
