cybergrimes 93 Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Hi there, I have a few questions about DVR behavior/navigation-- 1. I'm seeing with kids show 'Pinkalicious & Peterrrific' record with a generic thumbnail of a bear for each episode. I don't know if it's an Emby or Schedules Direct thing but if I perform a 'Refresh metadata -> Replace existing images' after the recording it will replace with a proper thumbnail. Do any of the nightly schedule tasks do anything to replace generic images? Clearly replaced thumbnail here isn't that great but thought I would ask anyway. 2. I'm recording some older shows from sub channels and understand EPG data doesn't have season number/episode, which is fine, but I'm curious about how Emby presents them to me. For example Supermarket Sweep episodes come in as 'Supermarket Sweep 1990-02-05' for literally every episode, so Emby appends a -1, -2, -3 and so on for each episode. These are going into a specials 'Season 0' folder. On the Emby app if I go to 'Recorded Shows' -> 'Supermarket Sweep' I can click into the 'Specials' folder and see all episodes I have recorded. However I also am recording 'Carol Burnett and Friends' which are recording with the actual date aired (not original, but current day I recorded it), these are not going into a Season 0 directory but right into the root directory for that show. Now when I go into the show folder from 'Recorded Shows' there is no season to select and the only episode presented to me is the 'Next Up' which is the most recently recorded episode. The only way I've been able to find previous recorded is from the main screen -> 'Latest Recordings' section. Similar to this I had moved some recordings from my previous Plex setup over for a show named 'Chirp', they use to air with the season & episode numbers but no longer do, when new recordings were added with the date like those other shows I would not be able to see them at all from the show page. Just the properly numbered episodes would show here, the rest I would have to find in 'Latest Recordings'. Is there a way to flatten a show to see all episodes or navigate to all episodes for a show regardless of season? Thanks!
Luke 42077 Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Hi, for #1, those are the images that we get from the guide data. If you force the refresh after the recording process, then at that point it's just a regular video in your library and it will use the internet metadata providers such as tvdb. The reason we don't hook these into the guide data is because the guide data doesn't include things like tvdb id's, therefore we'd have to search by name and the potential for incorrect matching would be very high. For #2, yes this is something we should improve. Those should not be going into season 0. We'll look into this, thanks.
cybergrimes 93 Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 (edited) Question-- with the new change that allows the zap2it/Schedules Direct ID matching to occur can something be done about pulling in thumbnails without a forced refresh? Maybe a scheduled task to run that can help clean it up? Something like the library option to "Automatically refresh metadata from the internet" For example an episode of Bull recorded tonight, the EPG slaps a generic thumbnail labeled "Season 1" on the episode but it's an episode from currently airing season 2. It's a bit confusing when browsing the library. I did test with the new matching for a show I've never recorded before, NCIS New Orleans, the folder comes out correctly "NCIS New Orleans (2014)" but like Bull the thumbnail says season 1 yet actual episode is season 4. I don't expect TheTVDB to have a thumbnail for a currently airing new episode but I would even prefer the option of letting the server generate the thumbnail rather than use the bad thumbnail from EPG data. Thanks! Edited March 7, 2018 by cybergrimes
Luke 42077 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 The issue is that when there is no tvdb image for certain kinds of programs like say, news, you might actually like the stock SD image better.
Carlo 4561 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 So could we use the tvdb icon if it's available and fall back to the EPG icon if not? Also for recording shows would it not be best to just use the main image vs the season icon? That might simply it drastically and get rid of some of the confusion.
cybergrimes 93 Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 (edited) Maybe a per series schedule setting to toggle server thumbnail generation vs EPG thumbnail? I wonder if it's something Schedules Direct would correct if a ticket was submitted, I could ask at least I can look at a post-processing script too, no biggie Edited March 7, 2018 by cybergrimes
