DTS Sound Stopped Working

Recommended Posts

I have been playing MKV files with DTS audio for months and suddenly about two weeks ago I get no sound. The receiver doesn't switch to DTS so it seems like nothing is coming from Emby. If I use another player on the same computer/receiver DTS works with the MKV files so it must be something from Emby. If I lower the playback quality enough, it will start to pass stereo sound but no 5.1 sound.

I am using the Microsoft Store version of Emby Theater and I have confirmed it was up to date.

Any suggestions?

I just saw that you're using the store version. That relies on the Windows media foundation, so something may have happened on your computer. Have you tried the desktop app? It's much better.

Not much changes on this computer other than Windows Updates as it is dedicated for the TV.

I haven't tried the desktop app. Is this a known bug with the Store app?

Do you have any steps to correct or reset WMF?

Thanks,

When you tested with other apps, did you try windows media player? If it plays in that, then the media foundation is ok. But if you're using a computer, I'd suggest you use the desktop app. It's far more capable.

DTS audio tracks don't play at all for the though Windows Media Player.

I found while messing with the Windows audio songs today, that if I turn off "exclusive mode", my amp gets PCM audio from Windows and then I get 5.1 sound from Emby but in PCM mode, not DTS as per the MKV file. The problem with this is that 2 channel Dolby PLII comes through as stereo and won't get up converted by the amp.

So I learned that I want to keep "exclusive mode" enabled, but when I do Emby plays no sound for DTS streams, all other streams are ok.

I just tested with the store app, and I don't get DTS audio, either. Something has changed in windows, I think. Stats is showing no audio output.

I did recently update my iGPU driver. That may have something to do with it. Do you have an Intel GPU?

And once again, you won't have this issue if you use the desktop app. It will play everything. It doesn't rely on windows.
