revengineer 142 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I have a new IPTV provider, which has excellent quality stream, which typically well in VLC. However, emby gives me inconsistent results. In the attached log is an example using two channels, 1592 and 1628. When I start emby server, I can play 1592 and I can stop and restart the playback. On the other hand, 1628 does not play at all in emby. Even worse, after I stop playing 1628 and retry 1592, the latter channel no longer plays. Only after an emby-server restart does the channel play again. There may be something iffy with channel 1628 today but the fact that 1592 no longer plays after 1628 was attempted is definitely odd. Sanitized log is attached. The test for the log was done with 3.2.70.15. However, 3.2.70 gives the same results. It's just harder to test because of the shutdown issue I am experiencing. Log (3).txt
Luke 42078 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Looks like the stream closed right away which would suggest you might need to enable the stream looping setting.
revengineer 142 Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 I did that and it seems to work. I am puzzled though because the need for the loop checkbox is inconsistent. The checkbox mentions adverse affects if it is not needed. I wonder what these are. I noticed occasional looping on some channel which went away when disabling this feature again. This may however be coincidental. There are so many variables involved with IPTV and I sometimes wonder if working out the issues is worth the time. This general thought goes beyond emby. If think about how much time I spent maintaining our tech world, it is almost insane. I do fantasize once in while about ditching it all. :-)
Luke 42078 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Well for one thing, once you enable that you don't get the stream sharing that we've built for iptv, simply because the stream sharing isn't built to accommodate the loop requirement. In the past we used to have it on without any option, but after observing ffmpeg failures from @@CBers, we had to make it an option.
revengineer 142 Posted February 19, 2018 Author Posted February 19, 2018 I can live without the stream sharing. I do rely on proper recording of the shows. Hopefully this will work. In too cases I saw failures to record about one hour into a show. However, I need more testing on my end before reporting here.
maegibbons 1287 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 @@Luke I still believe better monitoring of incoming streams could be employed so that stream loss would start a new -1 -2 recording Currently i still do get a fair few "short" recordings with IPTV when the stream is closed and emby does not detect/do anything about it. A monitor of the birt rate would be sufficient. Krs Mark
revengineer 142 Posted February 20, 2018 Author Posted February 20, 2018 So I scheduled two recordings with the loop option check for the m3u tuner. One of them played the same ~10 loop for 50 minutes. The second show aborted after 10 minutes. I the disabled the loop setting and the next recording seemed to have succeeded in full. While this may work for recording (more testing is needed to confirm), I can no longer watch live TV with the tuner because the video stops after ~10 seconds. I wish this would work better. I like this new IPTV provider because the streams are consistent and of high quality. My previous provider would yield ok recordings but watching live TV gave a constant buffering experience. Maybe separate loop options for recording and live watching would do the trick.
Luke 42078 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 That shouldn't make any difference because they are handled the same way. It is probably more of a question of whether it is needed for one channel vs. another channel.

Also early ending of recordings I have seen quite a few.

I did notice the difference in need of the loop feature between channels you point out. For now, I am concentrating on the channel I watch most. If I can make this work so that I can stick with this provider then I will expand to other channels.
