adwuk 3 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Hi - first post here and just setting up an Emby server for our personal use. We have a LG Smart TV running WebOS 3.3 and I have setup the Emby server to force direct play of mkv, m4v and mpg formats (using the DLNA profiles). I am also using the latest Emby app on the TVs. Long story short is that there is a noticeable delay with the sound vs video when streaming mpg files vs mkv or m4v files. This is true when either using DLNA or playing from the Emby app. I am happy to provide additional details of our setup, but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this to date?
mastrmind11 722 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Is it ALL mpeg files? What happens if you convert an mpeg to mkv?
adwuk 3 Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 Its all of the mpg files I have tried so far. When I convert to mkv, and now just tested m4v, there doesn't seem to be a problem. Here are the details for a file which lags on the LG TV (either in the app or via DLNA client), but not on other devices (Android phone or iPad): Video Codec H264 Codec tagavc1 AVC Yes Profile Main Level 40 Resolution 704x288 Anamorphic No Interlaced No Framerate 24.9971924 Bitrate 626 kbps Bit depth 8 bit Pixel format yuv420p Ref frames 1 NAL 4 Title 480P H264 Audio Language eng Codec AAC Codec tag mp4a Profile LC Layout stereo Channels 2 ch Bitrate 164 kbps Sample rate 48000 Hz Default Yes Title Eng AAC stereo Default Container mp4
adwuk 3 Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 I am guessing that it does because it plays the file, albeit badly. I know that no Emby transcoding is taking place because I have disabled it for the user. It is possible that the TV is doing some transcoding, but personally I doubt it because there are some streams that it doesn't support, and even the DLNA player comes back with a playback/unsupported stream error.
adwuk 3 Posted February 23, 2018 Author Posted February 23, 2018 It looks like the problem was down to variable frame rates in the video stream rather than container format. I am doing a few more check to confirm, but I now have a constant frame rate MPG playing well and a variable framerate M4V playing badly.
Luke 42077 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Emby for LG 1.06 has just been released. Please try it out. Thanks !
