trmentry 0 Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 So I'm probably going to need to move Emby to a new machine with new storage as my current setup is in the process of a slow death. I'm in the process of deciding on what to get. Frankenstein that I have currently is growling at me. I found this wiki page. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Backup But have some questions. 1/ my Library will prob be moved to a NAS of some type. Currently it's on local drives in my windows machine. Will the Library folder be a mapped drive F:\path\to\media or a UNC \\nas\path\to\media 2/ can the Folder and Optional Network Folder be the same? I understand that the Optional Network Folder needs to be UNC from what I've read... so that direct play can work, etc. But guessing this doesn't come into play with transcoding. (I have a bunch of Apple TVs). 3/ when restoring my emby library. the paths will obviously be different. I"m bit unclear how to retain what has been watched vs not. having the library re-scan for art, isn't a big deal, most of it is stored in each folder for movie/show already. 4/ any pointers people can offer would be great. Thanks
ebr 16197 Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 1) Use UNC paths if the media is remote. Never mapped drives. 2) If these two end up being the same, then the network path is not needed. 3) As long as the items are properly identified before and after the move, this data should carry over. For items that don't have global identification (like home videos etc.) you would need to make the paths look exactly the same for the data to transfer.

So once I get my new windows box running... installed Emby make my new paths to the library old F:\media\tv\show1 to new \\nas\media\tv\show1 is what i'm needing to do for structure of the new paths. and then restore from backup. I have the backup plugin running. Looks like I'll have to move the structures in the zip files manually back to their locations. Or is there away to restore them auto-magically? Thanks
Luke 42086 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 No, you don't need to mess with the backup files but when you go through the restore process i would select not to restore the library definitions and instead just set those up manually.

Lost me on "library definitions" Do you mean the new paths to the new locations of the library? Really the maint thing that I'm after on the new server is my watched data for the user that runs on the AppleTVs. Just 1 for whole house. is it just move the user and userdata folders back from the backup zip file to get that data back? although the paths from the old to new library will change from local drives to unc on the nas.
