Heuer 76 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I am still getting crashes when playing back recorded TV. Playback starts normally and then after about 3 minutes the picture stutters before coming to a complete stop. If I try to back out I am offered the opportunity to stop the app because it is not responding. If I do that Emby goes to a grey screen and is unusable without closing the app in the Shield settings. I am using an Nvidia Shield for playback with Emby Server running on an i3 with Win10. EATV Logs sent at 18:06 UK time with user David watching a recording of Frasier. This is the media info: Logs attached. This happens with practically every recorded programme - I am using NextPVR. The .ts file plays perfectly in Kodi, Plex and VLC on the Shield, also in Theatre on my HTPC. I can provide the file for download if you want it. Thanks transcode.txt server.txt
ebr 16179 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I didn't get an app log. What version of the app are you running?
ebr 16179 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Also I see you are running the beta of the server and using HW acceleration. Turning that off would be the first thing I'd try.
Heuer 76 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 EATV 1.5.47g. I did send the log but I will give it another go.
Heuer 76 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 My bad, I did not click on the tile properly! Log sent 18:46 GMT - user David watching Frasier recording. Will try switching off HW accleration and report back. Thanks for the fast response!
Heuer 76 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Still happening with HW acceleration off. Log sent 18:54, user David, file'Frasier'
ebr 16179 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Looks like perhaps an out of memory error. Odd on a Shield. What else is installed on the device?
Heuer 76 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Kodi, Plex server, Plex, youTube, BBC iPlayer, VLC and thats about it. No games or other stuff of note. I can even get Emby for Kodi to play properly. Movies and TV shows other than those recorded play perfectly as well. I can put a sample copy on Dropbox for you if you want to try it on your system.
Heuer 76 Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Will give it a go tomorrow and report back.
Heuer 76 Posted February 14, 2018 Author Posted February 14, 2018 Disabled Plex server but Emby still crashes. Log sent at 11:07 GMT.
Heuer 76 Posted February 14, 2018 Author Posted February 14, 2018 Just tried playing the same file in EA on my Samsung S8 and it stopped playing after about 10 minutes. This was at 12:17pm. Dashboard showed direct play to the S8 yet the file is transcoded when played on the Shield. Note: this happens with all recorded material not just this file.
Heuer 76 Posted February 14, 2018 Author Posted February 14, 2018 OK I think I may have solved this issue (with @@ebr's help). I had tried simply disabling HW acceleration by un-checking all the codec options in Dashboard but is was only when I used the drop down to switch it off completely that the problem disappeared. So even having HWA selected is enough to prevent playback. My mistake, should have taken more care with @@ebr's suggestion but in my defence it was late at night when I started changing things! Thanks for the help.
ebr 16179 Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Yeah, was still throwing an out of memory error. Obviously something about how it is being converted is "off". For kicks, you might re-try with .48 of the app as I did update the underlying player again and there was a commit with a comment about making an out of memory error "less likely".
