Subtitle problems in iOS

I have Emby installed on:
(1) iPad
(2) Apple TV
(3) Samsung TV (2017)

 

iPad
Subtitles work on the iPad but disappear when Airplay-ed to the Apple TV.

 

Apple TV
Subtitles work intermittently, occasionally failing to advance to the next screen of dialogue.
For example:
Speaker says A, A is displayed.
Speaker then says B. A remains on screen, B is never displayed.
Speaker says C, C is displayed.

 

This doesn't always fail - if there a pause (silence) between A and B, B will likely be displayed; if there isn't it likely won't.
This problem appeared in the last month or so.

 

Samsung
Subtitles work perfectly. This is why I believe the problem is not in the media or the Emby server.

 

All tests were done over Direct Play with mp4 files (h264/avc1, AAC/mp4a) and SRT subtitles.

I just tested with 11.2.5 (latest version) on iPhone - same results, subtitles on device, no subtitles over Airplay.

I will have to do some testing but this sounds like a platform defect to me. We are using the apple video player, giving it the url to the subtitles, and then airplay is also handled by the device.

I'll test whether other apps preserve subtitles. If they don't the problem isn't emby-specific.

 

I'm more concerned about the Apple TV app subtitle bug. Did I describe it clearly enough?

I can't reproduce any problems in the mobile app, but nonetheless the next version of the app will  have an all-new video player that will improve the playback experience considerably:

Emby for iOS 1.5 has been released with the new video player, wake on lan, and more. Enjoy.

This update didn't resolve the issue - subtitles are still "lost" when Airplay-ed from iPad/iPhone to Apple TV.
