cchsieh 8 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 When I play a movie with external ASS subtitle, the audio channel will be downgraded to AC3. But If I play it with SRT subtitle, the audio channel won't be downgraded. The server shows "Transcoding - 16.7Mbps ts h264 ac3". How can I keep the audio channel as the original?
Luke 42078 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 hi there @@cchsieh, can we please compare those two examples in detail? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
cchsieh 8 Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 I play the movie remotely from Android App, and choose the correct subtitle first and then play. The subtitles are Tranditional Chinese Unicode. When I play ASS subtitle, it will be transcoded to AC3, and when I play SRT subtitile, it won't. I also send Android TV's log about 2018-02-10 08:55am (UTC+08:00). Thanks in advance. server-63653849423.txt
Luke 42078 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Ok, @@ebr will comment on the support of internal vs external .ass subs in the android tv app. thanks.
ebr 16179 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 External ASS subs will have to be burned in and, at that point, we would need to convert audio such as TrueHD or DTS to AC3.
cchsieh 8 Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 I see. Thanks a lot. Any plan to support ASS at client side in the future?
ebr 16179 Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 I see. Thanks a lot. Any plan to support ASS at client side in the future? Hopefully. Internal ones should work fine now as long as nothing else requires transcoding. It is just external ones that are problematic. Unfortunately, that is the most problematic format for subs on this particular platform.
cchsieh 8 Posted February 12, 2018 Author Posted February 12, 2018 Is it possible to transcode only video and keep audio as original?
ebr 16179 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Is it possible to transcode only video and keep audio as original? It depends on the format. It is not possible to pass DTS or TrueHD in the streaming container we are using.
