Emby Mobile App - Set Mobile/Wifi max bitrate

Emby mobile app currently has the ability to set:
- Home network quality

- Internet quality

- Chromecast streaming quality

I have my Emby server setup with an external IP address and publicly accessible domain name.

From testing, it seems that the Home network quality is ignored and the Internet quality overrides all settings when using either Wifi (either my home network's Wifi or public Wifi) or Mobile data.

It would be great if on the mobile app, we could set Mobile/Wifi max bitrate instead.

Generally, if I'm on Wifi I'd have the bitrate set to Auto, but on mobile I'd have it set to 420kb/s so as not to chew through my mobile data as quickly.

Unless I'm missing something here, it doesn't seem possible to do with the current settings.

Alternatively, if it's possible for Emby to correctly determine if the external domain name is being accessed from within the same network then the Home/Internet quality settings would probably be fine.

Hi, it's not ignored but it depends on which network your phone is on and where emby server detects the device as being inside your network. If you are truly in network then it would be better to look into the server setup to see why it's not being detected that way.

Hey Luke,

Thanks for your amazingly quick response.

I've tried to setup a static route in my router to map my public IP address to my local gateway but it hasn't done the trick.

My mobile is connected to my home Wifi, and my video quality settings are as follows

- Home network quality: Auto

- Internet quality: 144p (so it's blatantly obvious when it switches to this low bitrate)

- Chromecast streaming quality: Auto

When I tested streaming from the app while connected to my home Wifi, I get the 144p quality.

How does the Emby mobile app detect whether I'm on the same network as the Emby server, when it's using an external IP address that's NAT translated to a private IP address on my current network?

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here.
