Direct Play on Emby

hello everyone. right now i am user of plex. but i have some problems on that.

take a look on google i found the emby, i have some questions...

what formats does emby support for direct playback (without transcoding)?

- Just like in plex, is it possible to have a server fully hosted in the cloud without the need for a connected computer?

on the premiere, I saw that the 4.99 plan per month allows for 15 devices. My question is, can I add only 15 friends in my network to share the library?

For #1 formats supported depends on what end client you are using. Apple is the most restrictive platform so only mp4 is really supported direct play. Nvidia shield/Android tv supports the most.

#2 you could have it fully hosted on aws or similar but it is not a service offered by emby.

#3 it’s 15 premiere devices. If they aren’t using premiere features then it could be as many devices as you want. Has nothing to do with users.

not completely. What would AWS be?

about users, can I use as many as I want? type, I can have 1000 registered users, but I have the limit of 15 people watching at the same time, would it?

The device that supports the most formats is the Kodi client with emby addon.

Again, it is devices using Premiere features.  See here for what are Premiere features on what apps.

But, it sounds like you will need one of our extended plans.

Thanks.

To answer a bit on the cloud hosted part, I was successfully able to deploy emby on Google Compute Engines.  It is easy and dirt cheap.  The only issue will be your media.  My media is hosted in the cloud itself and delivered directly to the client, so there is no bandwidth costs incurred with GCE for playback of media.
