JXL2112 7 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Is Emby too intense for older style hard drives? It seems to grind/buzz the hard drive at certain times like loading the program or just loading a video. I'm worry it might wear out my hard drive. No other program seems to push the hard drive to this extreme. PS: It's a WD 4TB Black Edition drive.
Jdiesel 1431 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Sounds like your hard drive is beginning to fail. I'd back up everything asap.
Luke 42086 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Can we look at the activity that is occurring during this time? Please attach the emby server log. you can learn how to do that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
Guest asrequested Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Maybe having some transcoding going on, reading and writing to the same drive?
JXL2112 7 Posted February 5, 2018 Author Posted February 5, 2018 Sounds like your hard drive is beginning to fail. I'd back up everything asap. The sound has occurred with two different drives. A 1.5TB drive and now a newer 4TB drive. This didn't happen with Plex or any other software that I have used. I'll upload a log file shortly.
JXL2112 7 Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 Update: It dawned on me that emby is installed on the C drive and my media is on the last partition. I decided to install emby on the last partition and it reduced the buzzing noise which I assume is the arm having to swing back and forth rapidly from the first partition to the last partition. Once in a while it still makes the noise though. I'll try to increase the C drive and move my media files to it and see if that further decreases the noise. The sound is unnerving to say the least.
