Dewey80 7 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Hey guys, I have a question on how everyone handles the folder naming structure for boxsets. I understand that on the server side the auto-boxset does a great job of clustering movies, and I really like this feature when I have a few movies that go to together. But the, somewhat, OCD side of me likes to keep some order in the back-end, in case I actually go looking in File Explorer, and thus for boxsets like James Bond, or Indiana Jones I keep them in a folder. But because I prefix the folder to ensure they are displayed inorder emby doesn't auto-identify it as it takes the file name and not the file name... I've attached the folder structure of one example, Indie; These 4 folders are in the parent folder named 'Indiana Jones [Multi]': And here is the output from Emby, showing it unable to match: Is there a way for me to keep this structure and have emby identify the movies... say for instance, with ignoring special characters like []... ie [1], [2], etc? For Boxsets like James Bond, where there is 24 movies, I kinda want to be able to keep some structure to it! Cheers for your inputs, Dewey
aspdend 177 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I used to try to do this myself for James bond, star trek and similar movies - but, in the end, I gave up because it was so against the methodology of the system that it was far more hassle than it was worth. The auto boxsets feature works brilliantly and doing it the manual way just caused me more pain. Sorry I can't help, but that's my experience... 1

Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I have a question on how everyone handles the folder naming structure for boxsets. I just stick them in the library directory based on "Release Title (YYYY)". Auto Boxset organizes for collection display. Since I don't show the library collapsed, I use the sort name for individual sorting. Both for movies and collections. For instance, Star Trek Original Movies (i.e. Star Trek 1:1 = Star Trek: The Motion Picture) are sorted before Next Generation (i.e. Star Trek 2:1 = Star Trek: Generations). Next Generation is before Alternative Time Line. For most purposes, I don't need to know where they are located on the disk. So 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' will be in the "R" section while the other Indiana Jones movies are in the "I" section on disk.
KOBEY 62 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) ya i have the same issue. MB3 handled this much better. ie: Stand Up Comedy>comedian>comedy central>vid1>vid1.mkv vid2>vid2.mkv >apolo>vid1>vid1.mkv >comedian>comedy central>vid1>vid1.mkv vid2>vid2.mkv >apolo>vid1>vid1.mkv Collections are the heart of my collection...id like to have better control over how its displayed. like you gave us with MB3 and the nested collection. Dewey80 7 Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 Thanks for your input @@aspdend & @@Koleckai Silvestri ... seems like its not possible I did look into hacking windows with an additional metadata tag at the folder level (and sorting by this in explorer) but this seemed a bit over the top for a small OCD issue... I resolved myself to sorting the folders by Date Modified instead and just editing their contents so they fall in the order I would like, then for example when a new Bond comes out its Date Modified will be the latest and it will automatically drop to the end. Appreciate the input all the same

Appreciate the input all the same To comply with your level of OCD in arranging these files etc - I agree, it is not going to be possible with automatic metadata from Emby etc. It is a shame - I must admit I did quite like seeing my james bond files in numerical order in one all encompassing james bond folder - but my urge to organise at the folder level was overtaken by my lack of time to manage it properly...
Luke 42083 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I must admit I did quite like seeing my james bond files in numerical order in one all encompassing james bond folder There are multiple ways to handle this. For starters you could customize the sort title on the james bond movies. Please note this will also affect those titles when viewed in "all movies" lists. If you don't want that, then you could create a collection, and configure that collection to sort the items by release date.

Thanks Luke, for me, in the end, I decided the urge to do this was less than the ability of Emby to create automatic boxsets so I went with the flow and it makes my life much easier! :-)
