adrianwi 279 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Probably not an easy one to answer, but which would be better to run on the same hardware? I've just discovered Docker and have created a Ubuntu VM on my FreeNAS box running Docker. Even though I've only assigned 1 CPU and 4GB RAM (the machine has a Xeon processor and 32GB RAM) it seems to be faster running emby than a FreeBSD jail. And would the data folders be compatible between them? Could I copy across the FreeNAS folder structure so I don't need to reorganise media or recreate users, assuming the media is mounted in the same locations in the Docker container, or will that just break everything? Thanks
Luke 42090 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Hi, you can try to use the data folders but we can't guarantee they will be compatible. The biggest difference right now is that the Docker install is .NET core based and may perform better because of that.
adrianwi 279 Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Ok, thanks. I'll give it a try and let you know. When is the FreeBSD version likely to move onto the .NET core?
Luke 42090 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 As soon as Microsoft provides a runtime for bsd.
mguebert 10 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I am using a Win 10 VM under freenas running emby server. It seems to do OK, would running a docker instance be faster?
